We finally have it! The 2022 Spring version of our signature old tree sheng Pu’erh style cakes from Manipur! The 2021 harvest was reserved for experimentation and we are glad to have done that! Although it did lead to no 2021 cakes, it makes our 2022 cakes even more worth that wait! No doubt we loved the older and redder cakes from 2018-2020, this is much closer to the real sheng Pu’erh teas from China! We had an incredibly wet year this time so we have stored it dry to keep it away from the rains but we will now be able to age this in our beautiful tropical climate! We recommend you transfer it into your pumidor very soon as well! We can see a remarkable difference in the dry stored and one which has aired in 70-100% humidity for just a month!
The dry leaf has an earthy aroma with a fruity background, resembling Indian gooseberry. The wet leaf opens up the aroma quite significantly with the earthy and grassy notes dominating it! The first infusion has notes of freshly cut grass with a fruity finish of Indian gooseberry on the background. The aftertaste has more complex fruity notes of Indian jujube and pear. The second infusion has a refreshing young sheng astringency with even more complex fruity aftertaste with notes of Indian jujube and custard apple. The third infusion has notes of pear on the front with a honey like sweetness. The fourth infusion has an interesting menthol note along with the grassy, earthy and fruit notes. The same notes dance around in the later steeps with the honey notes making a strong resurgence towards the end. We had an incredible session tasting this tea and we guarantee it is going to be as interesting for you as well, even more so if you have tried the previous versions! Fortunately, some from those batches are in stock even now if you want to give it a try! Once again, really excited for you to try this tea and look forward to listening to your experience with it!
