Our Kenyan orthodox black breakfast blend is a high quality CTC tea that packs a punch and will jump start your morning. Clean leaves, honey-like aroma, floral flavor with no harshness and excellent with a splash of milk.
A beautiful scene unfolds as you envision the tea bushes, grown on the southern slopes of Mount Kenya at a relatively high altitude of 2036M above sea level, situated between two main rivers (Rundu and Mukengeria) that have their source in the Mt. Kenya forest. The area is farmed by approximately 3,700 small scale tea farmers with a combined acreage of about 847 hectares (2,092 acres.) Most of the farmers are related and farm ancestral pieces of land that have been passed down from generation to generation. Most of the pluckers are women who farm tea farms that belong to their husbands or fathers. Land is usually inherited patrilineally, though recently women have begun to inherit and purchase their own tea farms.
These Kenyan teas are naturally pesticide and herbicide free.

This is really rich and strong and delicious. A good way to start the day! A lovely sweetness to this … when someone says “burnt sugar caramel taste” this tea is the best tea to exemplify that flavor. That is exactly what I’m tasting. That yummy, homemade caramel taste with hints of burnt sugar. So good. So rich. So flavorful!
This tea has helped me shake off that groggy feeling I had before I started sipping on this tea. I’m awake and ready to go. This is the tea I want on hand for those days when I need to shake the sleepies.
So, you’ve been drinkin..a red elephant have you now. I must say, I do luv the name! I’d enjoy asking someone if they’d like to have a cup of Red Elephant. Hum.
This is another favorite of mine. I think I actually have two yes TWO tins of it! So if anyone wants to try some…let me know.

It’s got a taste similar to assam but only slightly. It isn’t bitter but it is strong and perfectly acceptable without milk and sugar. The taste reminds me of unsweet granola or wheat germ. I also can taste a whiff of coffee but that might be my mind playing tricks on me because I know its an African tea. It really is quite nice when you want a morning tea but not an Assam or Ceylon blend.
Also want to add that this came in a very generous sample from Joy’s Teaspoon which makes me definitely want to get some more soon!
I like kenyan teas for the same reason, and I think they have their own unique flavor. It’s been a long time since I had a Kenyan tea, but I don’t remember them being overly astringent.
Not overly astringent, really…but a nice level of, I guess :)
