Description

Longview First Flush Tea
Grade: FTGFOP1
Season: First Flush
Leaf: Greenish black, tippy

We are please to offer this first flush from Longview Tea Company especially because of our close relations to this estate. You see, Longivew Estate is currently being run by Mr. R.S. Tiwari, my husband’s dear uncle on mothers side. Mr. Tiwari had been with the company for over 20 years when he decided to retire. But such is his attachment to the estate that when he was called back from retirement by the owners of Longview Tea, he did not hesitate at all!
Longview is one of the oldest plantations in Darjeeling with the tea company being incorporated on 16th January 1879. The company passed hands from James Warren & Company Ltd to Daga & Company in 1950s. Since then the company has changed hands a few times, but is back with the old owners.

In January 2008, the old factory was gutted in a fire that broke out early morning due to some sort of short circuit. The Siliguri and Kurseong fire services as well as fire trucks from Rohini’s Army camp fought valiantly to bring the fire under control but the fire destroyed property worth Rs 2 crores.

Clearly the production of tea has been impacted, but tea estate manager, Mr Kuldeep Mallik has worked hard to bring production back on line. The Longview Tea Estate comprises 1,020 hectares, the garden comprises 506 hectares with 1,244 permanent workers.

If you would like to taste a Darjeeling tea with the unmistakable muscatel aroma, try this tea.
