4 Tasting Notes View all

“Had for morning tea today. Feel so bad not saying more about it—aside from a lighter-than-usual (for Keemuns) note of sweet honey instead of heavy cocoa, it had a neat subtly wine-y grape element...” Read full tasting note
“Tea of the morning….. This is the other fancy tea in my tea splurge. I know there is something close to this in the database, but the listing was 4 years old, and the name is ever so slightly...” Read full tasting note
“Breakfast tea this morning. I liked this. It is a lighter amber and a lighter body than most keemun I’ve had, but has a nice aroma – very slight honey with more pronounced malt and “keemun-ness.”...” Read full tasting note

Description

This the first teas made from the famous Keemun area, so it is lighter and sweeter than others.

Keemun (also called Quimen) is one of the most famous areas for black tea in China. It comes from the southeast corner of the Anhui Province in China. We buy many teas from Keemun, including this Treasure, through the powerhouse Keemun Hao Ya A to our everyday English Breakfast. The tea quality is determined time of the year. This Treasure is the first production of the year, so the leaves are tiny and there are many buds. So the tea is light and very special. In between Treasures and the Hao Yas, the leaves are bigger but still have some buds, so this is the time for Keemun Mao Feng. Later on the leaves are bigger and that makes for the powerful tea called Hao Ya A and slightly less intensely cocoa Hao Ya B. Then when the heat of the summer comes, we buy a more common tea that has some of the qualities we love in the early season keemuns but a fraction of the price. This we use for our loose English Breakfast. Please note that we offer many types of English Breakfast. So this description refers to our EB teabags, Loose EB, Classic EB and Wrapped EB sachets.
Dry Leaves Small curls of black and dark gold. This is an early season tea, so it is the the bud (that turns dark gold and small leaves.
Liquor Light brown because the golden bud lightens up the brew
Aroma Light and sweet cocoa notes
Body Since there is not much leaf, the body is lighter than other keemuns.
Flavors Lovely flavors of slightly sweetened cocoa make for a delightful brew
Brewing Time 5 minutes
Brewing Temperature 212 F
