“I received a free sample of this one with my last FLT order. Unfortunately, I wasn’t too impressed by it. I did two sessions. In the first one, the flavor had a bit of an unpleasant sour...” Read full tasting note
“Sipdown. I don’t remember too much about this tea. I finished it off at work a couple of weeks ago. Minerally, a hint of sweetness/fruit, roasted. Not a repurchase for me.” Read full tasting note
The dry leaves of this Da Hong Pao smell like some sort of roast grain and dry herbs with a touch of sweet fruit. The rinsed leaves smell malty, stone fruit, and the roast is strong.
This tea’s broth is full bodied and mineral and has a very nice dry fruit sweetness. Its aftertaste has a mixture of sweetness and the roast. Salivation shows up but not super strong at this point. Ho Yun( a throat feeling) is obvious and feels more rough than our Dong Ding Traditional.
This is a very solid tea, and great for winter time.
*This Da Hong Pao is a 2015 Spring Oolong. It went through 4 roasts. The forth roast happened in April 2016, so the roast is still very bold. We sell heavier roast Oolongs from past seasons for a reason. These teas need time to integrate and become a more balanced tea.
