Description

Dianhong black tea coming from Matai town in Lincang County. Personally, I’m a great fan of pure bud black teas, particularly that comes from Yunnan simply because of their unique and delicate flavor profile.

Farmer Leaf, founded by William and Yubai, produce their own Puerh tea in Jingmai and source black, oolong, green and white teas from the region.

Dry leaves of this week’s tea are composed of short, slightly curly, mostly golden yellow tea buds. No leaf was used to make this tea, just the buds.

I brewed it western style using about 3 grams of tea. It cupped out deep orangish red liquor with great clarity. It’s so sweet and yummy with no astringency accompanying it. It’s the use of buds that make this tea very smooth and joyous to drink. The sweetness is more reminiscent of chocolate and the mouthfeel is rather thick and oily. As you can guess it’s not so strong but has a nice spicy flavor. The aftertaste was not so long but it left a nice sweet, chocolaty refreshing feeling in the mouth.

Overall, this week’s tea is a very decent representation of Yunnan black teas. Particularly if you’re after those beautiful golden yellow tea buds.
