Very Berry/Fig Sencha

Thank you to Awkward Soul for this sample! I loved this tea. The fruit taste is very smooth, no tartness at all. The sencha doesn’t really assert itself over the fruit flavor, but you can still taste it a little bit. I was surprised that there was so much flavor after such a short steep time, but wow, there is flavor to spare. I would definitely order this tea for my cabinet.

Anyhow, brewed up last night (it had the same sort of berry scent as 52teas’ Forest Berry Silver Needle!!), but didn’t drink until the morning. And apparently… I really liked it, as I drank the whole thing and have none left to try now, haha. But yes, it was quite tasty, and I look forward to being able to properly rate a cup of it! (And by that I mean, drink more of it, of course.)

I ordered this tea as I’ve never seen figs in tea and I do have a slight love affair with figs. Ahh the fig jam in this sandwich I had at the Getty Art Museum in Los Angeles..yum. At least I think it was the getty? Whatever.

Smell of dry leaves – tarty fruity. Lots of figs and lumps of berries.
Brews up to a light peachy gold cup of tea

Taste – mmmm lumps of figs! Nice refreshing taste of figs, strawberries, the seedy bits of the blackberries with the sencha taste at the end. A nice twist to those typical fruity blends of sencha. Kind of a sophisticated taste with the fig – and it looks impressive floating in a travel mug that is glass and clear.

If you like sencha tea with fruit – and something a little different, give this one a shot. Out of all the sencha fruit teas from ESP Emporium, this one was unique (next to the Apple Kiwi one I snagged)

Me? I think I won’t buy more of this tea. It’s good – but it’s sencha… getting tired of so many fruity tea blends being all sencha. They all taste similar, but with a different smell or fruit. I could probably mix all my fruity sencha teas up and it wouldn’t matter.

I forgot I had written this up to post a few days ago…
I bought this one from ESP because it was a blend I really liked from Tealux that they don’t carry anymore. Though it is the same, it seems like it might be lacking flavor somehow. With the old blend, even if the berry flavor was missing, there was still a strong peony flavor, even when it aged. Here there are only hints of any flavor at all. And there was a BIG piece of fig in the infuser. I really love the idea of this blend, I just wish it would translate better to the flavor.
