From Eastern Shore Tea Company

In India, a chai masala, or tea mixture, is sold on every street in varying strengths by chaiwallahs, or tea vendors. Truckers might ask for a “100 kilometer” or a “500 kilometer” chai. Chai is made with tea, spices, cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, clove, black pepper, and milk. All are boiled together to make a potent but cosseting concoction. The tea provides flavour, body and fragrance. The spices provide heat, warmth, and aroma. The milk tempers the somewhat ferocious Indian spices to a soothing brew. It is served heavily sweetened with honey. It is also good in the summer; the spices make you glow and cool you off! Our apple chai red bush is caffeine-free, and is made with Rooibos (Red Bush), from South Africa. Very Spicy, and perfect for cool nights!

I’m mildly offended by this blend’s name. Chai? Please.
“Very spicy!”, says the tea’s description. My foot.
“Rooibos with Eastern spices”, says the ESTC website. Eastern spices? What?

Okay maybe a little more than offended and into engrumbled territory. Honestly, the rah rah ’Murica tone and ignorance of anything non-US apparent in their descriptions has kinda turned me off this place. There are loads of other arteasans out there that have sensibilities better aligned with my own.

The tea is okay. The apple flavour is nice and the clove—yes, there’s clove—isn’t overpowering. But there’s no mix of spices, here, certainly not what one would expect from “chai”.

Another chai but this time with rooibos base. My wrapper says Mint Apple Chai Redbush; but I assume it is very same. Thank you for this tea Devon!

Mostly because I don’t notice any mint at all. Apples are red variety, quite sweet and refreshing. I have been afraid of spicy element, however it is fine and actually it was like a peppery note, like in rose teas. Another spices were cardamom and sweet cinnamon.

It was fine, but nothing I would necessary keep in my cupboard.

I had this tonight to sit down and relax after a long day – I’d been in the mood for Chai tea for hours – I was excited to play with my new tea :)
On my way home from a long road trip, I found this amazing tea store with over 1,000 teas – I stopped myself at 13 boxes of tea….
This was my choice tonight, and my friend and I both loved it! I still am experiencing the after taste of one of the spices, I can’t figure out what it is, but it’s pleasant. There is thankfully no stevia to ruin the flavor of the tea :)
I love apple teas, and I’m really glad I bought this – it still has a ton of flavor, even though I added half and half to it!
