Baozhong tea is a springtime favorite of ours. This green oolong is twisted instead of rolled and is so lightly oxidized it would easily be mistaken for green tea if it wasn’t for its creamy texture. Baozhong means “wrapped style”, taking its name from the 19th century practice of bundling tea in paper which was around the time this tea was brought to Taiwan from Fujian. The old name has outlasted the paper and it has developed into one of northern Taiwan’s signature teas.
This tea is kept loose and twisted and delivers a strong sweet aroma off the dry leaves. This aromatic and very low oxidation is best enjoyed while its fresh in the spring. If you have a big open bag be sure to share it with friends while the aroma is still strong!
