From DAVIDsTEA

Close your eyes and imagine walking into your favourite bakery. A fresh batch of ooey, gooey cinnamon buns has been pulled from the oven and carefully positioned in the display case. Can you picture it? More importantly – can you smell it? Enter Cinnamon Bun Chai – an incredibly buttery, sugary & pleasantly creamy blend of white chocolate, cinnamon, clove & ginger with a baked twist.

What makes it great

Fall for the aroma of hot cinnamon with a hint of other warming spices.

Honestly tastes just like sticky, freshly baked cinnamon buns.

Think of this blend as a caffeinated version of our beloved Cinnamon Rooibos Chai (with a baked twist).

Cinnamon, Oolong tea, Ginger, Cocoa butter chips (sugar, cocoa butter, dextrose), Carob, Chicory root, Natural cinnamon flavouring, Black pepper, Cloves, Cardamom.

Sampler time! Love the aroma, not so much the flavors. The cinnamon is very forward, and that’s not necessarily bad. Give me all the spice! But I’m just not getting anything beyond the spicy sweetness as the tea goes down my throat. No lingering anything (except the pepper stinging my lips which is actually one of my favorite physical sensations, but doesn’t really belong here). Not really tasting the chicory either; I actually think some nuttiness would help round out this tea. And for something with cinnamon bun in the name, I expect buttery goodness! Gonna try this as an oat milk latte next time.

Last week, I placed two back-to-back DAVIDsTea orders: one to stock up on Sweet Potato Pie and the latter was inspired by this blend which popped up on the site early Tuesday morning. I really gravitated towards the idea of a chai blend with an oolong base. But more than that, I was really excited for a blend inspired by cinnamon buns! Which is why I impulse bought 100g without thinking about it too much…

Now, it could be my sick brain, but I found this tea to be a bit of a letdown. I decided to make it as a hot latte with soy milk. As far as cinnamon goes, it is the most prominent of this tea from beginning to end. But with that being said, that’s all I could taste or smell, and the flavour overall was a little too “spicy” for my liking. I think this is a better cinnamon tea/spiced chai than it is a tea that tastes like cinnamon buns, at least in my opinion.

If you like spicy chai, I’d recommend Cinnamon Bun Chai, but if you’re expecting a cinnamon bun flavour like I did, you might be disappointed just the same.

Sipdown (1397)!

Honestly, if you’re a cinnamon lover, this isn’t a bad tea at all – it’s a sweet and very red hot cinnamon flavour with a smidge of creaminess. I’ve kind of grown to appreciate it for what it is, and when I’m in the right mood I don’t mind that style of flavour – it’s comparable to Cinnamon Rooibos Chai but with the bonus of being caffeinated. But a Cinnamon Bun Chai!? It’s not really that…

Personal opinion, but I think DT need a Cinnamon Bun tea redemption!

Friendly reminder that I do not numerically rate DAVIDsTEA blends as I’m currently employed there and it would be an obvious conflict of interest. Any blends you see with numerical ratings were rated prior to my employment there. These reviews are a reflection of my personal thoughts and feelings regarding the teas, and not the company’s.

Tiffany :)

I do enjoy CRC but never caught this one when it was briefly around on DT website. From your notes I’d like it to have more “cinnamon bun” vs. just “cinnamon” notes. :)
