From DAVIDsTEA

With their soft green colour, naturally sweet taste and cool, juicy flesh, honeydew melons are basically made for spring. In fact, this delicately perfumed fruit has been a popular standby at spring picnics and dinner parties everywhere from the south of France to ancient Rome. So when we mixed luscious honeydew with tangy kiwi and a hint of papaya, we knew it was gonna be good. Light, fruity and totally satisfying, it’s a fresh new way to sweeten up your spring.

Similar to many melon tea’s, Melon Drop needed to be steeped for a long time or use 2-3 perfect spoons to get much flavour.

I myself am not a fan of melon things unless it’s the actual fruit and I am eating it so it’s no surprise that I did not enjoy this one. I bought it mostly for my boyfriend because he likes the flavor of melon things. I will keep it around for him.

Herbal TTB

I’ve had some delicious melon teas from Butiki and Lupica in the past. This one smelled good, but fell short of my expectations. (I feel like I say that a lot in my tasting notes; I tend to choose what teas to buy/drink based on aroma and that can be deceptive.) I definitely get honeydew from this, but it’s mixed with another vague, artificial fruity flavor (I guess that must be the kiwi?) that I’m not enjoying. It’s also unexpectedly sweet; a bit too sweet for me. Although I don’t see stevia in the ingredients list, this is definitely reminding me of some of the pre-sweetened teas I’ve tried from Republic of Tea. Overall, I’m not a fan.

Funny how different people have different tastes. I quite enjoyed this one.

Inkling

That’s one thing I love about TTBs…it’s so interesting to see different people’s reactions to the exact same tea!

The amount I got of this in a sample package was paltry compared to how much I would normally steep for a cup with chunky blends but thought I’d give this a fair shot anyways. The mix of kiwi and melon gives it more of a candy taste than a refreshing fruity one. It’s veering towards the body wash and/or candle taste territory. Pretty unremarkable and I don’t think I’d drink this again.

Sample from Tea in Spoons’ stash sale. Thank you!

This tastes decidedly like cantaloupe. I really enjoy cantaloupe, but I had a hunch that it was likely be a bit too sweet for me in tea. And this definitely is. It might work for blending, but I find it a bit too sweet on its own.

Evol Ving Ness

I wonder whether it would work with a bit of orange juice to cut down the sweetness. Or a bit of hibiscus?

rosebudmelissa

I’ll probably do a bit of experimenting. Ginger might also be interesting.

Evol Ving Ness

hmm, ginger. Yes, I am looking forward to hearing how it goes with your experiments.

I just discovered I had a few teas in my Steepster cupboard that weren’t in my actual cupboard. >.> This is one of them – I think I finished this off just before we moved? Good for me as I didn’t really like this one. It was weirdly bitter and sour and, while you could taste the melon, it just wasn’t very good.

This was delicious! Hot, iced, cold-steeped; it really doesn’t matter. A fantastic summer tea even though it was part of the spring collection, such a treat! Wish I bought more of it~

Absolutely delicious iced! Too much melon could be cloying, but it’s light and refreshing instead!

A drop of delicious! I would definitely have it iced though. I iced it and steeped it for half an hour, SO GOOD! It tastes like a nice melon and kiwi juice. The taste is so indescribable you have to try it for yourself. It’s quite nice. Have it iced, it’s ok-ish hot. Got 100g!

Now that Melon Drop has returned as the TOTM, I’m finally making a dent in my stash.

I steeped some in a travel mug this morning to enjoy over ice at work this morning. I’m also cold-steeping a pitcher to enjoy at home over the next few days. It’s so delicious and sweet without any added sweetener. It’s like melon agua fresca. It’s juicy, wonderfully ripe cantaloupe and honeydew to my taste buds. I’m glad I don’t detect much watermelon because watermelon in tea is usually a miss for me.

I’m so happy to be enjoying this tea again. It’s one of my all-time favorite fruit infusions from DT.

Flavors: Cantaloupe, Honeydew, Melon, Sweet
