From DAVIDsTEA

Drink it fireside

Traditional Chinese medicine says walnuts are a warming food. Which makes sense, because this is the kind of tea you spontaneously want to cozy up to on a cold winter afternoon. The comforting, lightly bitter taste of toasted walnuts is sweetened and deepened with dried pineapple, coconut, almond and organic green tea. Sip it in front of an open fire and chase away the cold.

Ingredients: Chinese sencha green tea, nut brittle, candied pineapple, coconut rasps, almond flakes, walnut bits.

#tiffanys2021sipdown Tea #131 overall / Tea #2 for April

Thursday 4/01/21 — DT Toasted Walnut. Let’s be honest, this is not really fair. This is one of my all time favorite teas and I happened to find a tin with enough for one 20 oz hot & plain brew tumbler. I have to say it was still nice to have a cup amongst all the tea I sip to have a good friend when sometimes you are sipping down teas to get rid of them and have lost interest or tired of them.

Autumn Harvest! I got this DAVIDsTEA sampler from Ost’s cupboard sale, so thank you Ost!

Since I don’t work tomorrow, I thought I’d indulge and have a green tea tonight instead of my typical evening herbal. The leaf has a very inviting sweet, nutty aroma! Steeped up, the tea has a pale gingery yellow color and smells very buttery and nutty. The tea is quite light-bodied and sweet, with a somewhat buttery and slightly creamy mouthfeel. The flavor is definitely more of a nut-flavored dessert than roasted nuts, and while I do taste notes of walnuts, I’m actually getting a much stronger almond flavor; not the typical marzipan taste I’m used to in almond teas, though, this actually tastes like almond-flavored cookies, sweet, buttery, delicious almond cookies. I think the coconut flavor is coming through just enough to bring out a bit of creaminess and a note of toasted coconut as well, but it compliments the overall cookie flavor I’m getting well. But then, I love cookies covered in toasted coconut too, so maybe that’s just where my mind is at right now.

Enjoyable as a sweet-tooth night cap.

(reposted this to the correct page) I really dislike walnut in foods, but for some reason, I love walnut-flavored teas. The flavor is so sweet and nutty. It goes really well with the green tea and the second brew is tasty as well. I got this as a sample in my summer order, and I am definitely impressed. There was enough in the bag to make a bigger cup than usual, and there was a huge walnut in there too.

I was expecting this tea to have more of a sweet nutty flavor. I taste alot of grassy notes. With sweetener, the flavors come out more. It is pretty enjoyable. I cant say id buy it again though once my 2 ounces are gone

Moving on to the next oldest coconut tea on my list – DT’s Toasted Walnut. I’m relatively sure this one was discontinued years ago. I bought it in October 2015 so it’s pretty old. It’s been opened, unlike my last coconut tea, and I can almost imagine a faint smell of soap coming from inside of the bag. Let’s be honest – I’m probably not imagining it, though when I had this same blend 8 months ago it didn’t taste bad at all.

After steeping, the liquid is cloudy with flecks of tea floating on top – I used my least favorite filter today and it obviously didn’t hold everything in. Exactly why it’s my least favorite. The final cup looks really unappetizing. The taste is astringent and bitter and there is that faint hint of soap in the background. It’s not really powerful or overwhelming, but it’s definitely there. This one was never a favorite, and I think it’s finally time to toss it from the cupboard. Can’t say I’m too sad about it.

Interesting. This is one of my all-time favorite teas ( bought like 12 large pre-packed tins when they discontinued it in 2019?). I don’t think I realized it has coconut in it…

If it makes you feel any better, I had forgotten about mine for a few years and when I opened it several months ago it was still just fine. I’m guessing after being opened the second time I must have let some air in and the coconut turned on me over these past few months. If you still have some sealed packages, hopefully they are still good! If so, maybe just drink them quickly after they are opened. Hopefully they’ll keep.

I liked the name of this much more than the tea itself. I have so many of these samples, trying it every now and then, still don’t love this one. I can taste the nuts, I love nuts, I guess I don’t love nut in tea.

I request samples of Toasted Walnut and enjoy them every time I place a David’sTea order, and I don’t know why I’ve never actually purchased any, lol. I like this just as much as Forever Nuts, and it’s great when I don’t want FN’s cinnamon flavor or to take a chance on the weird beetroot that’s in FN (every once in a while, I get a cup of Forever Nuts that is very earthy and I can actually taste the beetroot and it’s awful). Toasted Walnut is just as warm, sweet, and nutty, and is super creamy rather than spiced. It’s like a caramelized vanilla dessert topped with toasted almonds and walnuts. I do find that I like to use a lot of Toasted Walnut per cup, though, as in where I’d normally use a tablespoon, I want 2 tablespoons of Toasted Walnut to really get some flavor going. It’s intensely creamy, tastes very naturally sweet, and is super comforting.

This DT is one I would gladly purchase again. I enjoyed it much better than I expected. Yummy in a cup. On the other hand, I did not like DT’s orange walnut scone at all which was blah and bitter. This one is very tasty. A nice blend of flavors.

I really enjoyed this one—the green base is mild and nutty, a good complement to the walnut flavoring, and there’s just the right amount of sweetness from the fruit pieces.
