From DAVIDsTEA

Yo ho ho-conut

Hot buttered rum is so delicious we want it all day long. Unfortunately, most employers frown on workplace drunkenness, so we came up with this rich and creamy alternative. Toasted coconut and vanilla beans mingle with black tea in a caramelized caress of flavours. Decadent hot or iced, it also blends perfectly with dark rum, brown sugar and a dash of milk – so go ahead and indulge your inner pirate, off the clock. (MK Kosher)

Ingredients: Organic: Fair Trade Certified Black tea, coconut flakes, vanilla beans, cornflower petals. With organic and natural flavouring*.

I understand the appeal of this tea, and in theory – looking at the ingredients I should love it. But I don’t. I mean, it is nice – I get a subtle coconut flavour and a bit of vanilla and rum, but it just tastes artificial to me. I thought it might have been the way I steeped it but this is my fourth or fifth cup and it still doesn’t appeal to me. I’d have another cup if it was offered to me, but it’s not a tea I’d go to.

This tea smells sicky to me :S

This one smelled intimidatingly buttery and creamy. Like buttered-pasta levels of buttery. I wasn’t sure it was going to be good, but after steeping, the aroma softens into something much more appealing, with a touch of coconut. The taste is delectable as well—a soft blending of coconut, buttery cream, and vanilla sweetness. The rum flavor isn’t very strong and is more present as a lingering note, which is just as well. The tea base is quite good, providing a nice smooth backdrop for the flavors. It reminds me of one of my other favorite coconut-and-cream blends, White Coconut Creme by Art of Tea, though that one had a white tea base. Thanks beelicious!

Was a fun day out with my friends today :) next week at school is going to be hectic so today was the day to have fun. Anywho I ended up going to my friend’s house afterward, and offered me a cup of this tea. Seeing as my last taste if this tea was not at all good, I was a little bit hesitant, but she insisted that it was perfect for me so she steeped it up and made it as a latte. And it was good! I’m convinced that my tea was just rotten or some sort of bad thing, because I enjoyed my friend’s batch. It was super creamy, with that rum taste, and lots of coconut. Definitely will buy another 50 grams in hope that the tea will be better!

Pass the Stash TTB #10

I’m in utter love with this. LOVE. This tastes like buttered rum. Amazing. I really don’t know how David’s did it but it’s amazing. This is delicious.

Oddly enough, I had some rum last night at a Halloween party though I don’t normally drink it, so I have the flavor at the front of my memory right now. This tea mimics it very well.

I really didn’t know what to expect exactly because I didn’t really have a grasp on what “buttery” flavor tastes like. So…I was pleasantly surprised. This is one of those teas that feels like it should have way too many calories to justify drinking (since I’m not one to waste calories on things I can’t even chew). With that being said, I also feel like I probably couldn’t drink multiple cups of this in a row without feeling like I’d had something heavy. It makes for a fantastic dessert tea :)

OMIGOSH WOULD YOU BELIEVE MY BOYFRIEND LIKES THIS???? He’s not usually keen on even taking a single sip of any of my teas. But, he took a sip of this and went to hand it back to me…and then yanked it back to take another sip, and another sip, and another sip before finally handing it back and saying, “Okay, fine, that one’s good.” Yes!!! Buttered Rum for the win!!

ETA: I got so excited about my boyfriend liking this that I completely forgot to thank the wonderful NayLynn for sending me this sample (as well as a few other similar flavors from other companies to compare)!

sounds yummy! I haven’t bought any from David’s yet. Working on a list.

The Cookie Lady

I actually haven’t bought anything from there yet either. I have been lucky enough to receive samples of a couple of their teas, which is great since they sell in larger amounts than I would be comfortable buying unless I had sampled them first.

DavidsTea sells in as little as 8g if you have store access :) Or someone willing to hit one up for you. They’re great that way. Unfortunately, online purchases are in 50g increments unless you buy a sample kit.

The Cookie Lady

Unfortunately, I get no love from David since I live in southern California :( The nearest store is 7 hours north of me. I may have to ask a friend, though, now that you’ve mentioned it!

The first time I had this, I just added a little sugar and didn’t really care for it much. I could only taste what I considered overpowering artificial rum. This time I added some brown sugar and milk and it was delicious. I could taste the coconut and vanilla, even that delicious buttery note.

Thank you Maria for the sale! I’m not much of a drinker at all, but I have to admit buttered rum sounds delicious. I’m not sure how these flavors are here if this blend is organic, but it does taste and smell a little buttery and a little rummy. The coconut is the raw looking stringy type and I can’t say if it adds much flavor. There is a slight plastic flavor that is a little odd, but otherwise the blend is okay. It basically matches the name of the tea, definitely. I only used one teaspoon and probably should have used a teaspoon and a half as suggested. Not my favorite from David’s tea… honestly, I haven’t tried too many blends I didn’t like from them.

Very yummy! I made it with a dash of agave and cream and it was done in a few long sips. Very light black tea for me.

I’m pretty sure the coconut in this has gone bad… Smells overwhelmingly of vomit.

Tastes like vomit too. Dumped. >.<

Not going to rate it, considering.

Look what all unflavored teas did to you?!

Cameron B.

Lol! I definitely like flavored less than I used to, but this one was definitely past its expiration. :P

mj

I wasn’t all that impressed with this one anyway, so I don’t think you missed out on much.

Cameron B.

mj, I haven’t been terribly impressed with David’s for the most part, so you’re probably right.

SarsyPie

OMG I have had a couple teas that smelled that way, but I didn’t have the nerve to just say so LOL

TeaNecromancer

omg rank coconut is so awful, it makes me cringe just thinking of it!

Roswell Strange

Oh no! Was this the one from me? It still tastes ok to me, otherwise I wouldn’t have sent it along – but it is the last bits in the tin, so it’s probably more broken up than it normally would be.
