Harvest
April 2012
Origin
Tongmuguan, Fujian
This is a traditional Zhenshan Xiaozhong or Lapsang Souchong from Mali Village in Tongmuguan region of Wuyishan. Mali Village is located on the highest mountain within the Tongmuguan region, at 1600m above sea level, and produces some of the best black teas due to the high amount of rainfall, foggy conditions and the drastic temperature variations during the course of a day.
Tongmuguan is the birthplace of black tea in the world. It is one of our absolute favourite tea regions in China – it is pristine and the beauty is breathtaking. The tea plants are scattered on steep hills in the forest, amongst bamboo forests, rocks and stones.
The leaves come from semi-wild groves of tea trees. It is slow-smoked in a wooden “house”, built in the 30s specifically for smoking tea, with locally harvested pine.
This tea is smooth, sweet, with notes of longan. The smokiness is distinct but not overpowering.
