From Cultivate Tea

玫瑰野生赤甘

Harvest
Organic Crimson Rose: Spring 2020
Wild Lapsang Souchong: April 2016

Origin
Organic Crimon Rose: Heqing, Yunnan
Wild Lapsang Souchong: Tongmuguan, Fujian

A sensational and unique tea, blended by Lynn of our Organic Crimson Rose petals, and a rare Wild Lapsang Souchong black tea.

Lapsang Souchong is the world’s first black tea, and originates from Tongmuguan – a small mountainous county in a Nature’s Reserve. It is one of the most pristine and beautiful tea producing regions we have been to: full of mountain peaks, cliffs, streams and waterfalls.

This Lapsang Souchong is foraged from wild tea trees that grows wild in the bamboo and fir forest, at 4000 ft above sea level. Petals of our Organic Crimson Roses are blended with the tea, and the result is a remarkably delicious tea. Lingering notes of orchids, sweet plum and alpine flowers on the palate.

A really lovely rose tea with a flavorful lapsang base. These two work really well together.

TTB Review #19: Hooray, a rose tea with actual rose flavor! Still not as prominent as I would have liked but at least I can actually taste its presence. Numi continues to be my favorite rose tea, I await the day that something takes its place as my number one.

Have you tried Rose Scented by Harney and Sons? Powerful rose!

Rose Congou by Upton used to be super popular but it is sold out right now – restocking in the spring. I guess that means it is still very popular,

I haven’t tried either of those, will add them to my list! Thanks for the recommendations!

Oh, and Minnie Mouse blend by Harney is rose and caramel. I enjoy that one, too, but it is only available in sachets. Free shipping all the time on any dollar amount makes me try more teas than I would if I had to pay shipping g every time a whim hit!

If Tuxedo Mask from Sailor Moon had a favorite tea this would be it. Beautiful and rich with intense rose aroma and flavor but subtle with wonderfully balancing woodsy tones. They are using an unsmoked Lapsang for this one. The finish is very nice. Slightly creamy with a dry woodsy flavor.

Just a comment about the Cultivate tea: I had a lot of really good experiences with Cultivate tea in the 6 to 8 orders I have had with them this year as an online customer. 1) They let you know if they don’t have the full quantity in stock or if the leaves are from the last bit of their stock and they are broken and ask if that is want you still want and sometimes adjust the price depending on how much they have left. 2) If you ask them about a tea that is out of stock or you are interested in (especially on Instagram), they will let you know when it restocks personally, and maybe send some recommendations your way.

Preparation: Gong fu

First steep (20 fast counted secs): more rosy-plum sweetness, black tea was smooth and zero astringency. It had such a pretty amber color from the rose petals.

Second step (15 fast counted secs): Black tea came out more this infusion, richer and deeper.

Third steep: (25-30 sec): Faint rose, black tea still has caramel note, but is more refreshing. Pairing this with sakura themed Desserts so this steep is a little harder to detect all the nuance.

Flavors: Caramel, Plum, Rose
