Our initial impression was the typical chocolate-maltiness you expect from a good dianhong. But the second brew had a floral scent in store, and after leaving the garden, peaches.
This tea comes from Daxhushan region bushes with minimal human interference outside of picking. Some would call them wild, but we call them left to grow. Fans of our Red Delicious and Dark Forest will especially enjoy this one, as it exhibits all the qualities of a higher end dianhong at an affordable price.

Enjoyed a session with this eerily accurately named black tea this afternoon! It’s got such a beautiful deep red liquor but, aside from a gentle astringency throughout the session along with hints of plum skins and malt in early steeps, there’s not a whole lot to say about this tea because I just find the name to be quite accurate! Definitely more of a cacao/bitter cocoa note as opposed to luxe notes of dark chocolate, and a floral leaning white peach note instead of something syrupy and juicy – but those notes are there and beautiful!

If the shipping weren’t so intense, that’s one of the ones I would have snagged. Florals, peach and chocolate-all things I love in teas. The pictures are gorgeous too!
I was tempted by this one as well. One day I’ll have to order from Bitterleaf, if only to try their Dancongs.
