This new addition charmed its way into our 2020 Dancong collection with a bold, fruity character and strong, lasting fragrance. Its status was solidified by a full and textured mouthfeel.
Part of what makes this tea so impressive is that it offers many of the qualities of a high-mountain, old bush Dancong, but at a budget price. Coming from 30-40 year old mid-mountain bushes, this tea doesn’t have any impressive stats we can throw at you. It’s simply how it performs in the mouth that makes it so impressive.
Typical of the Huangzhi Xiang varietal, this tea exhibits a gentle fruit flavour up front, but finishes with a pleasant floral fragrance that sticks in the throat. This tea is an excellent choice for anyone seeking a bold, yet balanced Dancong for daily drinking.

This week’s episode of Geek Steep featured our very first musician/album deep dive! I’m honestly just really proud of us for challenging ourselves to really push the definition of “what is a fandom” as well as continue to try and incorporate as many different types of media as possible this season!
If you’ve been following me on Steepster for a while you’ll know that music is a very important part of my life and has a strong place in my own tea routines and rituals. So, I put a lot of weight into how I’d approach the pairing for this episode. I ultimately ended up brewing this one Western style for the recording of the episode, but it was on the shortlist for my actual pairing as well. I loved the idea of something with more lively and vibrant fruit notes to mesh with the funk and electro-swing sound of most of the songs we looked at – though in practice this is a bit less fruity than what I had in mind so it’s probably best it found its way into the recording selection instead…
Still, such a good tea!
