Fig Formosa Oolong

The Here’s Hoping Traveling Tea Box arrived yesterday! WOW, it’s HUGE!
I immediately sat down with my laptop & 2 additional boxes. I put all the teas on my futon, (photo coming soon), & then made a list of all the teas, dividing them between the 3 boxes:
“No Thanks” went back into the original box. This is anything with artificial flavors, or just something I have no interest in, for one reason or another.
“Sample” I think that’s pretty self-explanatory. These are teas that might be interesting to try once, but once sampled will most likely end up in the “No Thanks” box.
“This one is mine” Originally titled, “I’m keeping this sh*t!” I guess you know that those are the ones I’m keeping to drink after the box is back on it’s way.

I’m at Tony’s for most of the weekend, with the exception of leaving for part of tomorrow to go play a wedding. I brought several of the tea samples with me, & I included the fig formosa in the sampling category because I love figs, especially fresh figs, & I figured, “Why not”. Unsweetened it is meh ;p
Sweetened, it tastes like grapejuice. There is oolong in there, but I’m not sure where. There are lots of flowers. Definitely going in the “no thanks” box.

Another tea from Angelina’s. I gave some of this to my mom and she has told me three times how good it is, so I figured it was time for me to try it. The dry blend is really pretty and fluffy, with large pieces of dried fig and a lot of blue and yellow petals. There seems to be more petals than tea, but it is very nice to look at. The dry leaves smell strongly of sweet fig. It’s almost to the point of smelling like cough syrup, I think because it’s so much sweet fruit smell in the little bag. The tea itself has a sweet grapey aroma, and the tea is a brownish-purple color. The flavor is a little earthy, with a hint of sweet fig. The aftertaste is a rich, candy-like grape flavor. I mean, this tea tastes just like a grape popsicle. It’s pretty good. Grape isn’t my most favorite flavor, but I’ve never tasted a tea like this; very unique!

-Dry blend has large black tea leaves with large pieces of dried fig and a lot of blue and yellow petals.
-Dry leaves smell overwhelmingly of sweet fig. Tea liquor aroma is of grapes.
-Tea liquor is a cloudy medium brown purple color.
-Earthy, rich and sweet fig flavor and finish. Strong candy grape aftertaste that lingers.
-Best with sweetener. Milk optional.
-Very good tea. Uniquely sweet flavor. Reminiscent of grape candy.

I really enjoyed this tea. The first thing that struck me about it was the fragrance. It’s a very light tea in terms of taste in my opinion,. I prefer to take it without any sweetener since I think that would overpower the tea. This may become one of my favourites.

sipdown! (246) I wasn’t expecting much from this after seeing terri’s review. She passed on a little of this one for me to try. Fig teas always interest me, mostly because i know gracebtlb is on the look out for a great fig tea. This is not it grace! not unless you think figs = grape. because all i get from this one is grape…and that artificial grape flavour, not juicy green or purple grapes. not a bad tea, but not the tea it claims to be. :)
