La Vie En Rose is a must for anyone who loves roses. It�s a joyously sweet and enticing blend of Bai Mu Dan-style white tealeaves (a combination of silvery buds and delicate green leaves) and gorgeous, wild-harvested fuchsia rosebuds. The intense rosewater aroma of the leaves gives way to the wildly earthy-floral aroma of the flaxen brew. Flavors of fresh-cut roses, loamy earth, field grasses and rosewater reveal a bright, floral aftertaste with a delicate astringency. The effect is profoundly soothing: this is La Vie En Rose.

Wonderful if you love roses and if you don’t—maybe this tea will convert you. This is one of the best rose-immersion experiences I have had. I think it’s on a par with Rosy Earl Grey from Teas, Etc. The rose is not competing with an Earl Grey. Sometimes I really want the Earl Grey to be the backdrop for the rose but this is a more fragrant, floral tea. I guess I will have to keep both in stock!

and how, you might ask, does a person cope with returning to work after such a wonderful escape? well the answer is by placing a ridiculous order for a couple hundred dollars worth of make-up that you’ve wanted for a very long time. :) i have become a MAC convert over the years. and my new short haircut seems to make lipstick more agreeable on my face than it used to be. i guess it’s a visual balance kind of thing?
oh, yup, i got my hair cut. it’s been a long time since i had it this short. i’m still in the phase where i spend a lot of time thinking about it. but that should pass soon i hope.

I completely understand why I loved this on a first tasting. It is really well done. No soap, lotion, or glommed on aspect, and yet not so subtle that you have to hunt for the rose.
I used the Breville settings for white tea, so steeped it a bit less long than the first time — with less time, or perhaps the luck of the mix, there was a bit more planty flavor from the white peony base. But not enough to make me rethink my rating.

The dry leaves smell like full-on granny style potpourri…and I LOVE that! The rosiness has faded quite a bit in the brewed tea, leaving a delicate rose aftertaste from a generally unremarkable white. To be fair, I’ve had only a very few remarkable whites and wouldn’t have expected a special one here. Still, I just love rose so much, and this is such a fresh, full rose, it may just stay in the collection.
