Often portrayed as touchy and skeptical, South Carolina delegate Edward Rutledge was a gentlemanly southern balance to brash Massachusetts delegates at the Continental Congress. He spoke up to counter the eager harshness of their views, suggesting the states wait on independence from England until the time was “ripe.” Eventually persuaded otherwise, Rutledge was the youngest signer of the Declaration of Independence. His tea blend is likewise fashionable and classy with crisp, mild green pekoe tea, sweet and relaxing strawberry, with a slight aloof quality from the cool spearmint. Also delicious iced in South Carolina’s warmer climes.
