I kept the parameters on this one the same but used a different steeper today. It definitely (and unexpectedly) tasted more balanced and the ginger was less overwhelming. A bit creamier too. I’m not sure if it was just the spoonful I happened to get or the steeper, but I’m upping the score a couple points because I appreciated it a little more.
9th tea of Christmas! Not too many left…could I finish them today? Maybe. I need to get to cleaning more again. Oh dishes. Dishes need to be done but I need a new package of sponges. Sigh.
So I was worried about this because of the oversteeping comment too, I already have an awful time with Adagio black teas so the gunpowder in here along with that had me a bit more concerned than usual, but it worked! I think I steeped it at 190 too just in case.
I liked this a lot more than I thought I would. It was pretty hearty, with just a little smoke and a good bit of spice. Nothing too strong and overpowering, it all worked really well together.
This is definitely not a tea I would ever have found on my own, so that’s awesome. Not that I might drink it again after I finish what I have from the swap, but it’s nice to know that some people out there can do such an amazing job making up blends on Adagio’s site.

I wish there was more ginger in here.. right now it’s a bit mellow in the background, almost like a faint ginger creme. It’s still lovely, and I’m glad I steeped it for a short time to eradicate all possible bitterness.

I will be honest, I was a bit scared of this one and I can’t even give you a valid reason why. Maybe the warning about not over steeping, maybe my last encounter with Irish breakfast tea, whatever it was I am glad I got over it because this is a pretty enjoyable cup of tea!
From the dry leaf I get the spicy fruity/ginger smell. The tea steeped has a nice balance of malty, ginger and cream. I was expecting this tea to be a bit astringent, but I am not getting much of that. This was a great tea for my morning cup. This is again another tea that I would have never picked to try on my own that I am really liking from the swap!
Day #9 of the 12 days of Christmas. Thank you Khaleesical-very cleaver how you tied it in! Can I just say how excited I was to read that this is from the “Tales and Tea Leaves” Lord of the Rings fandom blends. I have an Arwyn in my house, so if you are on the same wave I need not say more! This is my first Adagio experience. I will say I enjoyed it. The black tea blend was all that I tasted and it was nice.

I kept the steep time short to finish this one off and that definitely helped with the flavour. This is less ginger and bitterness, and surprisingly more cream so that’s a win for sure! Overall, definitely a more pleasant way to finish this one off. Seriously; I can hardly believe this is the same tea that I had yesterday.
Now to have some teas that I didn’t have yesterday.
