From A Quarter to Tea

“Later came sweetbreads and pigeon pie and baked apples fragrant with cinnamon and lemon cakes frosted in sugar, but by then Sansa was so stuffed that she could not manage more than two little lemon cakes, as much as she loved them."

Sweet lemon and honey with pastry and a full bodied base. It might just become your favorite too.

Sample Sipdown! (11 | 80)

Yummy!

This really does remind me of a lemon cake. It has a nice buttery, cakey note in the background and a desserty lemon flavor.

I will say, the base is very bland and “tea-ish” tasting. I did a 2.5-minute steep and it’s not bitter, though there is a touch of astringency. So I think this could be improved with a more flavorful base tea.

But still tasty! I love lemon cake. ❤

Coworker who placed an order with AQ2T got this one as a free sample, she tried a cup but didn’t love it so she gave me the other cup’s worth since it was an AQ2T blend I haven’t tried yet…

The flavour is sort of lemon cake like, I suppose. There’s this brown sugar/carmelized sugar note that I think dominates the body of the sip and it is something I’ve experienced before with cake or pastry inspired blends – but it’s not something I associate with lemon cake. For me, lemon cake should be lighter and buttery with a creamy lemon element accented by maybe a bit of tarter lemon curd in the start of the bite. This more dense, rich brown sugar-y thing doesn’t line with my vision of what lemon cake is.

That said, the lemon notes are nice; I think they taste most ‘pure’ at the top of the sip before the rest of the flavours get muddled into the mix – there’s a little tartness/pith to them that lends to authenticity/natural sort of flavour. Also some grassyness that gives this away as being lemongrass, though.

I’ll be totally honest, I don’t love the blend as a whole. There’s something about the way the flavours come together that doesn’t completely mesh for me/doesn’t feel ‘fluid’ in general. But thanks, Manon, for the chance to try it!

So I was definitely not thrilled about using up this free sample after seeing the word lemongrass on the ingredient list. I just can’t tolerate no matter how hard I try unless it’s extremely extremely faint. I’m not going to rate this tea because of that.

I added a Tsp of agave and about 2 Tsp. of milk (ridiculous but effective) I used the entire sample packet.

This tea is best after it cools for a few minutes and is warm not hot.
This tea hits all of the marks for me in terms of the name. Throughout my cup I kept going Mmm and then as soon as I got a hint of the lemongrass my face scrunched up a bit. This cup would be perfect if I wasn’t so sensitive to lemongrass. As another reviewer said it really does remind me of Starbuck’s Lemon Loaf that I love and reminds me of my childhood. If your a fan of lemon teas I think this is a very good one. The assam comes through very nicely as well. Overall this is a very well balanced cup of tea.

Let it be noted that I drank this tea and thought it was alright.

I did love that this is an assam base, and that I didn’t need to to tone it down with milk in order to get the sweet and creamy lemon cake flavours. I’m all congested right now so the fact that I can taste it is impressive. Also, more Game of Thrones/A Song of Ice and Fire series references for the win! Love the pop culture nods, AQ2T.

On a side note- I wish we could remove the broken images on steepster. This tea is pretty.

This sipdown business is going a little too well this week. I’m beginning to get suspicious. Surely the cupboard has hidden teas which it will spring upon me at a moments notice? Yes?
But, for this morning, I have sipped down this blend.
I liked the freshness of the lemon, and the assam base was nice, but I never did get anything resembling “cake” out of it. Ah well! It was refreshing on this hot morning, and now it is another notch out of my tea cupboard.
Sipdown!

Fjellrev

Good job on the sip downs!

Evol Ving Ness

Very impressive. Surely you have a shoebox full of unopened tea in the closet that you’ve forgotten about?

Rosehips

Ha! I feel sure that there must be a whole cupboard full of tea hiding from me somewhere!

Don’t faint. It’s a pain in the butt. After bloodwork and a cardiogram came back fine, I am now being sent to do cardio tests and neurological exams. Today I had to get an echocardiogram and get a holter monitor for 24 hours. Now, there is a location. Literally 3 minutes from my house but they didn’t have availability until May 20th and since I’m without my license until I know what’s up, I didn’t want to wait that long. Instead I got to go to the downtown area in rush hour traffic. Definitely not fun.

There was a plus though. Coming back from the doctor, we (my mother and I) passed by many places where my mom stopped to get me all my favorites. We also passed by Sil’s which meant I could pick up my part of the shared AQTT order (thank you Sil again for arranging it!). So despite walking around hooked up to wires, I have been one happy girl today. In fact, we even almost got a puppy.

Now I’m sipping on this tea and watching American Gods. The dry leaf of this smelled amazing, by the way, reminding me of Butiki’s Lemon French Macaron. Alas that may have set unreasonably high expectations. This tea is good. Quite good but as good as it is, I was still disappointed because of the Butiki comparison.

If I push out the comparison and look at this for its own tea, I will admit it’s a pretty great creamy lemon option. Lemon zest goodness that just borders on the edge of pledge in its strength but without going over. The base contributes a dessert sweetness that helps create the idea of cake. It’s a really nice tea, a little astringent maybe, but nice enough that I wish I grabbed a bit more than a sample which got used up in this cup.

Evol Ving Ness

Glad you are getting treats. Hopefully soon, you’ll be getting some answers that you can live with. It’s all pretty stressful. Thank goodness for good tea.

Sil

LOL almost got a puppy…that’s so random :)

Sil

(also glad you could pick up your teas!)

VariaTEA

Well she knows I want a puppy and she would have got one too if I didn’t say it was maybe a bad idea.

Sil

haha omg NO MORE DOGS

VariaTEA

We only have one! Well one full time and one part time.

Fjellrev

Oh no, I hope you’re ok, and that they can figure out your health condition.

Tried this one out today – have a bit left for another cup. Initial impressions, good lemon creamy sort of blend. I’d be interested in seeing what adding a little sugar to this would do. Not in love with it enough to buy a wackload more, but still enjoyable.

Sipdown! 15/365

Lemony and cakey, with a bit of creaminess, but I think I’d rather a different base tea. I’m getting a bit of astringency despite being pretty cautious with the infusion time. The flavouring is good though, and unlike others, I enjoy when lemongrass is included to amp up the lemony flavour. It works well for me.

I received a small sample of this tea in my recent swap with Sophia. It’s not something I would have gravitated to on my own, as I’m not typically a fan of lemon-flavored teas. But Lauren has the Midas touch and this is nothing like those harsh, artificial-tasting lemon blends I’ve had in the past. This one has a lovely light, creamy lemon flavor with the base adding just enough depth to justify it being called “Lemon Cake” instead of “Lemon Cream”. Refreshing and delicious and definitely something I would drink again!

I bought a sample of this with my recent order, I guess forgetting that I had tried it before. This time I’m getting hints of butterscotch in the finish. It has a nicely rounded and slightly muted lemon flavor. Nothing that jumps out and bites. I feel like I’m a little less taken by it than I was the first time I tried it.
