In Greece, tea is called Teion, which is a corruption of the word Θείον – Theion meaning “Divine”, because ancient Greeks believed it was the tea of Olympic Gods and Titans and it could strengthen their power! The mythological Titans were a race of very powerful deities, descendants of Gaia and Uranus, that ruled during the legendary Golden Age. Because of Titans mythical size and power various large things have been named after that as “titanic” to indicate its enormous size. They were living on the Greek Mountain Othrys, exactly where Mountain tea is growing. Mythology describes this herb as the food of Titans that boost immune system and cures colds, respiratory ailments, sore throats and stomach aches. As any Greek elderly will tell you “Drink at least one cup a day! It’ll make you as powerful as a Titan”. Later, when Zeus conquered Olympus, he is said to have flung a lighting bolt to scatter and to offer the precious tea to his beloved Pierides Muses.
