drank Lemon Mango by Urbal Tea

I remember this being more lemon than anything else and that is reflected in my Sororitea Sisters review. Bright lemon and generic fruitiness. Good but not a must have.

Tea-Infused Hot Chocolate Sipdown (224)

This only steeped for under 4 hours and it’s definitely not as flavorful as the last one I had. It’s still good though with a nice raspberry punch to cut through the chocolate. This just has less almond and less cookie than before.

I keep forgetting about my swap with Evol Ving Ness because it is buried under a bunch of other boxes and bags. The bags that Evol used are pretty good so there is not cross contamination but the samples are on the older side. So fingers crossed this has not gone bad and also thank you Evol for the share, even if I have not given it as much attention as I should.

At first sip, nothing appears rancid. There is a lot of sweet and some cinnamon but not much distinct flavor. I guess dates are naturally sweet and this is naturally sweet but there is not a lot going on here. The more I drink, the more date flavor I get but the more sweetness that builds. So this gets a bit cloying. It is different than many other fruit tisanes but different isn’t always great and for me, this is not a favorite. However, I can see it being enjoyed by others.

In other news, yesterday was an interesting day. And by “interesting”, I mean terrible. I had to go in to my doctor’s office to get my blood test results. Since I don’t have vacation days at work, I started working at 7:30 am so I could leave at 3:30 pm to get to my doctor’s appointment at 4:45 pm across town. My concern was the subway getting packed at rush hour given my agoraphobia so I figured best to leave earlier and avoid the rush. However, that meant waking up at 5 am to get to work on time.

When I got to the doctor’s office, my doctor told me that there was something off about my results and she wanted to run more tests. That meant more blood work. I am terrified of needles so my mom came to pick me up from the doctor, assuming I would require more blood work. In the past, I have almost passed out from getting blood drawn and usually had to lie down but the past few times I have been fine so I got my blood drawn sitting up this time. The technician used a butterfly needle like they usually do for me but it took her a while and she had to keep moving the needle around. They took 8 tubes of blood and by the end, I started feeling very not ok. I asked my mom for a lollipop to get some sugars and they finished up the blood work.

That’s when shit hit the fan. I passed out. More than just passed out though. I had a seizure while I was out. So that happened. Thankfully my doctor is not overly concerned about it but its a pretty unsettling feeling. Plus, it meant taking off a day of work which was not my preference but I suppose its a valid response to having a seizure.

Glad to hear your doctor isn’t concerned, but that’s super scary!! I hope everything comes back ok! Take it easy!! <3

VariaTEA

I was calm because my whole family freaked out but once they calmed down, I started to freak out.

tea-sipper

Scary stuff! I’m glad you’re okay.

ashmanra

Oh no! You must be terribly sore, i am sorry that haopened to you.

VariaTEA

Turns out my doctor is slightly concerned because I got an email for a neurologist appointment today. Thank you everyone for the concern.

Kittenna

Yikes! I hope everything is ok, and that the seizure can be traced to something easily dealt with (like maybe low blood sugar/having 8 vials of blood taken/having an intense fear of needles?)

I’m also needle-phobic, and have to lie down for any blood draws. Being pregnant and having a c-section involved lots of needles and was very not fun.

Ubacat

Hope you’re okay. I also suffer from low blood sugar but I’ve had nearly 20 vials of blood taken out at a time and been fine (a bit weak but okay). Maybe there’s something else going on. Hope you find out.

If this tea is ever reblended, I need more! This and Mixed Berry Trifle…and Hummingbird. Does AQ2T do reblends? Will I just need to specially order 4 oz? Oh…and Hot Cross Buns!!

Kittenna

Yes. Hot Cross Buns and Lemon Poppyseed Muffin are so, so good.

VariaTEA

Does that mean you’d want to share 4 oz if I ever did order them? It likely wont be anytime soon lol

drank Bananas! Black Tea by 52teas

52 Teas does banana teas well. This is no exception. However, it is not quite as good as a lot of their other banana teas that have a little something extra like Banana Marshmallow Treat Genmaicha or Anne’s Gone Bananas and a Little (Coco)nuts.

This is another really successful tea infused hot chocolate. It steeped for 6 hours and the end result has a distinctive raspberry almond cookie flavor. More than that, itactually tastes sorta like that marshmallow cookie that has raspberry jam (minus the marshmallow part)…whippets! It makes me think of whippets.

drank Honeyed Strawberry Cream by 52teas
6444 tasting notes

I’ve had this before and I swear I’ve written notes but those are MIA. Anyways, today I made this as a tea-infused hot chocolate. It steeped for over 3 hours and while I get some of the honeyed element and this is incredibly creamy, the flavor isnt as strong as I’d like. The Gingerbread Brulee and Monkey Chops hot chocolates remain the best ones.

I made this as a nutella latte and it just has such a muddiness to it. Perhaps I should have gone with a snickerdoodle latte because I think this needs more sweet than nutty/chocolate. It is just a mess of flavors. Also, I reviewed the tes time on yell and the shop got a bit defensive which I dont like. I gave them a solid review and 3/5 stars, nothing particularly harsh I dont think so it was a bit awkward to get the response back. I suppose they can defend themselves though.

drank Mocha Rocha by TeaTaxi

Cold brew sipdown (227)

I cold brewed this sample in milk for like 9 hours intent on making another tea infused hot chocolate. Then my mom had a bit of an episode so my preference was to go to my room asap. So I’m drinking just the cold tea-infused milk.

It tastes like a pretty solid caramel which is nice. Dont get mocha or coffee but sweet caramel rooibos milk. Its yummy but something I’ve had before.

Iced tea sipdown (228)

Another sipdown that was overdue. Another tea I am okay saying good bye too, at least for the near future.

My cupboard has grown exponentially since joining this site and I have a lot to share. Feel free to snoop through my cupboard and message me if anything interests you – I am always happy to swap!

For me, flavored teas are definitely my sweet spot. I will most often reach for black teas and rooibos or honeybush blends but I do keep some flavored whites and greens around for when the mood strikes. I have a few herbals/tisanes but most of the time I find myself disappointed by them as they often smell deliciously sweet and then end up tasting tart/sour. I have a little bit of an aversion to pu’erh and oolong teas. I am also wary of florals, earl greys, and chai teas. I do not like overpowering citrus flavors nor do I usually like hibiscus, licorice or chamomile. I love dessert teas – caramel, vanilla, toffee, cookie, cream, and other sweet flavors make me smile. Fruits like strawberry, peach, mango, and pineapples will often catch my attention as well.

I have also realized that although I really enjoy adding frothed milk to some of my teas, if I do not like the tea with zero additives (just in plain water without milk or sugar), I probably won’t drink it. The one exception is flavored matchas which I will happily drink in cold milk if I do not like it mixed with hot water. My theory is if the tea can’t stand on its own then it is not for me and I will more than likely try to swap it out for something else.

Tea Ratings Guide (as of December 10, 2017)
90-100 Teas I NEED on hand at all times
80-89 Teas I want to keep around for a cup every now and then
70-79 Teas I am glad I have around and can experiment with but probably don’t need more than what’s in my cupboard
60-69 Teas I would not turn down a cup of from a friend but that would probably be enough
50-59 Teas I can see why someone would enjoy but are not for me
Under 50 Teas I really did not like and most likely got dumped
