218 Tasting Notes
Okay, I was very curious about this tea, the description sounds intriguing and like something I could really enjoy. First time I brewed it I couldn’t really finish it for some external reason and then I heated it up hours later and had a few sips at the same time being occupied with something else, so I remembered absolutely nothing about it.
Yesterday, though, I made it again and I put a little bit of sugar in, and I don’t know if it was the sugar or the tea but it tasted VILE! As if someone dissolved a piece of the cheapest milk chocolate in a cup of hot water and powdered it with instant coffee on top.
I see that this tea has pretty good reviews (especially for a Teavana) here on steepster, so I suspect that I messed up the brewing in this way or another, and that adding sugar was definitely a mistake. I will try it again and try to tweak the steeping process somehow.
Preparation
I am on the second steep of this right now. While I still enjoy this oolong a lot, I think I will take the rating down a bit as I see less and less difference between this one and the oolongs I recently had from Golden Moon Tea. As before, this one is smooth and sweet.
Oolongs are great reading companions (Probably because you don’t have to get your mind off a book in order to try to decide on another tea – you can simply just resteep what you had!).
Of all the flavored blacks I had this morning, this one hit the spot. It sooo tastes like some kind of apple cookies, with molasses as one of the main ingredients. The ultimate treat tea. Absolutely delicious but also super-energizing.
I actually got this as a free sample, so I don’t have a whole lot of it but next time I shop at Della Terra, I should definitely grab at least an ounce of it!
Preparation
Honestly, this tastes just like any regular peach black tea. Perhaps the base is better quality and more aptly emphasized than in other “store-bought” teas, but, on the whole, there isn’t anything unique about it. While it is a nice tea, sometimes ‘nice’ is not enough, so I don’t think I will ever need an immediate re-stock of this one.
While I do like the entire terra sampler by Adagio with flavored Pu-erhs, this one would be probably my least favorite. I am still enjoying it though. Reminds me a lot of The Republic of Tea’s Coconut Pu-erh (which is actually way worse than this). It kind of tastes like watered-down coconut milk, the pu-erh notes are not very noticeable. Heavy, milky coconut is what I chiefly get – that is something I do not mind as I love coconut flavor. But yeah, I don’t think I’d buy it again outside of a sampler. I’d rather stick to Adagio’s Hazelberry or Spice if I feel like flavored pu-erhs.
Part of my Lupicia Happy Bag 2014. While I would have preferred to receive it as loose tea, the tea bags look really lovely and the quality of tea didn’t seem to be spoiled in any way. I really loved this more and more with every sip. The cherry flavor is absolutely exquisite and natural. Nothing funky about it. I can see how it would be a perfect summer night tea but it works just fine on a foggy winter afternoon as well :)
Very good dessert tea that funtions great as breakfast tea as well. The base seemed to be very pronounced, too, which is important because I’ve noticed that dessert teas sometimes have really mediocre bases. There’s something immortally delicious (sic!) about the chocolate + orange combination, it seems. This paired perfectly with my cranberry English muffin breakfast, too. Yum!
EDIT: I just found out that Ovation Teas have been gone for a while… That’s too bad! :(
Preparation
There were several people who went a little crazy during the Ovation liquidation sale where you had to buy their tea by the pound. I’m sure if you put the word out, you could find someone who still has a TON of this tea and was willing to part with it.
This tea is so gorgeously light! Probably too light as a first tea of the day, but I really didn’t know what to expect. I do like it for what it is, though. It smells very sweet too, like maple syrup. I think it has a chance to become one of my favorite blacks along with Golden Moon’s Sinharaja and thepuriTea’s Jasmine Golden Yunnan.
EDIT: Ha! So it’s white tea. Amazing! I never would’ve guessed. I think google should become my friend before I post my tea musings ;)
Preparation
Ha ha, now that’s a tea faux pas… or something! I could’ve sworn it was black (apparently the ‘white’ in the name was not a clue to me)… Perhaps because of the steeping instructions? Either way, it’s really good :D
I haven’t been very much into green teas recently. Partially because, as I recently discovered, I had been steeping them at too high temperatures. I have recently corrected that and I am ready to go on a green tea adventure again.
This one has exceeded my expectations. It is so extremely blueberry-ish that I am not sure how they achieved that without artificial flavoring. This very strong blueberry flavor composes wonderfully with the green tea base and doesn’t seem to overpower it (somehow!). I love it!
