Concerned about GMO's and "other flavorings"

has anyone seen this link http://foodbabe.com/search/what%5C%27s+in+your+tea
It’s on www.foodbabe.com. Search for “what’s in your tea”. I’m very concerned and am only looking for tea from companies she recommends. Does anyone recommend any other companies?

I’ve never heard of gmo’s in the actual tea bushes.
But if you are wanting to avoid these ingredients, you need to move out of the large popular tea companies (which includes some specialty tea companies).

If you are getting an oily residue on the top of your cup from straight tea, that is from the pesticides.

Stick to organic or better practise teas. Hand processed teas are not only going to taste better, but have higher quality tea and better labour practices for the tea growers.

www.justea.com is working towards hand processing our own tea. We plan on heading to Kenya to bring in a tea processing expert to teach them how to hand process tea. One of the farmers we have found to work with has managed to become almost organic (no pesticides, minimal fertilizers) on his own endeavour. All of our blends are made with organic spices or plants, which really do make for excellent flavouring.

Another company to check out is tealet.

Thank you so much for your help and comment. The GMO foodbabe is referring to is in the added ingredients often labeled as “other or natural flavorings”. Also in the packaging of the tea bags. So, it’s best to buy loose leaf. I appreciate your help.

If you are concerned about knowing what is in the “artificial or natural flavourings” are in a specific tea, you can always contact the company to find out the actual ingredients. I have contacted a few companies and they have always been able to tell me what the ingredients are.

Yes, that is great advice. I will do that. I didn’t realize how many tea choices, companies there are available until I found this site. Are there any other good sites like steepster that you like? Thank you so much for your help and reply.

I came across this :http://www.nongmoproject.org/find-non-gmo/search-participating-products/?catID=3 There are a few companies named: rishi, tazo, stash, republic of tea, etc.

I wasn’t really looking for it, but I bought a Mamma Chia drink at the grocery store today. While reading the ingredients, I noticed a website on the back of the bottle.

OMG! Thank you so much!! It’s exactly what I’m looking for. Ever since my cancer, I’ve gone way into eating organic and avoiding GMO’s. It is such good information on their website. Thanks again for helping me!

This is one of the reasons I’ve stopped buying Teavana teas. Nearly every flavored tea they sell has “artificial flavor” added to it.

well, that and their artificial flavor smells horrid. not to mention if you have stored any of that tea for even a short amount of time in one of their overpriced tea tins, the smell lingers for MONTHS, even after several runs through the dishwasher. ew.

Even some of their “straight” teas have flavouring. For example, when I first got into tea I was told the milk oolong was natural – the flavouring was a result from the dew high up in the mountains. I now know that milk oolongs are not natural teas.
The closest thing to milk oolong that is natural is Jin Xuan Oolong.

Yes, it’s very interesting how all of these tea companies just say “other or natural flavorings” and no one questions it….

I know exactly what a GMO is. My mom is on the Gerson diet to prevent cancer. She is also a vegetarian. My mom says products aren’t made to put whether or not they have GMO in it.

Thank you for the new comments. I am strictly buying Rishi & Numi teas since reading Foodbabe’s article re: teas. It is terrible that companies like Teavana get away with selling those GMO products to the public at such high prices! My cancer is in remission and I am on a mission to stay healthy. I am going to look up the Gerson diet. I’ve never heard of it. Thanks again for your input & info.
