A relatively mild, pleasant breakfast tea. I bought this at the Twinings store in the UK section of Epcot, because my boyfriend and I woke up one morning in our Disney hotel and realized that Mickey doesn’t provide teabags for his guests. How lame is that? The hotel had a hot water heater and plenty of coffee, but not a single tea offering!
Anyway. So this is a great morning tea when you don’t want the forcefulness of English Breakfast or Earl Grey, but still want a properly ‘English’ sort of tea. Tastes very good with milk and sugar. I had the bagged version and it was lovely; I bet the loose tea is even better.
Lady Grey, Lady Grey, I do love you. Maybe I do not sing your praises often enough. I do take you a little bit for granted (even after we had that scare a few years ago, where nobody in this country seemed to keep you in stock at all). But just been reminded that as long as I can get boiling water and a cup, you can on your own really improve any dreary wintery afternoon. Awesome Lady Grey.
Preparation
I love this tea, it is my go to tea, which I always buy and rebuy. I am not particularly fond of earl grey, any earl grey, but this works so perfectly for me. It is also a great tea to serve non-tea lovers, almost invariably they love it.
I have drunk this from the black box british teabags, the european (rest of europe that is) blue box teabags and the european (or perhaps rest of the world) blue tin loose. It will sound heretical but I think I enjoyed the teabags best. One warning, i think this is one tea which particularly fades with age particularly, don´t stockpile it, buy as recent as possible to consume. I thought the british (black box) teabags were stronger but that the continental (blue) teabags are more aromatic. I love it in any incarnation.
Preparation
Terrible news for someone who just bought a 50 pack of it…
Our independent grocer has 5 or 6 different Twinings teas that they carry 50 count boxes of, and I couldn’t resist!
Oh, even the black british box is (IMO) sublime! And I am not really sure if the variations in taste are not a) subjective or b) different batches and all that or c) likely freshest, newest tea is more vivid and older (obviously) has lost more taste.
50 bags of Lady Grey in my house do not last very long, do enjoy! And maybe you will like better the british than the blue kind!
Is that the difference? That’s exciting, then! The British box was far more cost efficient than the blue box. I do love the taste, but I tend to drink caffeinated tea sparsely, only once or twice a day at most, and preferably not at all. I think I need to split some of this tea between home and work to make sure it is all enjoyed while ‘fresh’ : )
This is just subjective but I think the british box is slightly more tanninic, “stronger” – so maybe less brewing time.
The british box also has those loose little paper teabags so I think the tea ages a faster. The non-british box has the tea in little paper envelopes, which while not ideal are better than the british box – also pricier obviously. And do enjoy, I think it is a brilliant tea.
A light flavored Earl Grey with more citrus than the regular Earl Grey. I also got a touch of smoke with this batch. Smooth, High Quality tea. I got this batch in tea bags, although it is availble in loose leaf. I don’t detect a difference in quality between the bags and the loose leaf, although I have a preference for loose leaf..
[edit]: smoke wasn’t from the tea as it turns out. There is no smoke component to LEG.
Preparation
This isn’t what I wanted to drink, but I only have one left of my preferred tea, so I figured I’d give it a go. I steeped a much shorter time and threw in a bit of raw sugar to try to enhance the apple and minimize the chamomile (which now that I’ve tasted I know I don’t like). Learning experiences!! Anyway, the titch of sugar took the edge off the chamomile. I should bring in my honey from home as I prefer it to sugar, but ah well. Still a lovely tea.
Preparation
Enjoyed it so much this morning I thought I would have it again. The liquor is more pale than I expect, and the green apple taste is delicious. I don’t actually know what chamomile tastes like, but I assume it to be subtle since I don’t find there to be an over-powering flavour.
As it cooled I started to notice something more and more that I referred to as laundry soap – Presumably that was the chamomile. Didn’t like that so much. Downgraded rating : (
