drank Pineapple Papaya by Tealicious Teas

This came to me during the Shabby House months, so it was forgotten and stored poorly. Found the rest of the sample while pawing through a basket. (Of course, this has never happened to you.)

The first time I had this, I noted that it went bitter pretty easily, so I kept everything on the light side—just barely 3 minutes—and it came out nicely. Good black tea base with the juicy fruit as an afterthought. More papaya than pineapple, I think.

Wish I had time to make one more batch and throw it on ice this morning — we’re having a bizarre spring heat wave — but I need to get the morning started. First Sunday with my fifth graders in three weeks, and since it’s April Fools, our story this morning will come from the book of Hezekiah.

First, there are several Tealiciouses out there; I believe this little sample chased me all over southwest Missouri from … Singapore, maybe? So if I’ve pulled the wrong vendor information into the tea info, apologies.

This is a nice, fruity black tea that, since I’ve never consciously bitten into a fresh papaya (I don’t count dried ones that show up in my trail mix), I’m not sure how accurate it is on flavor. Reminds me of apricots. Pineapple … I’ll just have to take their word for it; I’m not picking up much at all. I have yet to encounter a pinappley tea that was.

No instructions on the little packet I have, so I did your basic flavored black time and temp, and it came out a little bit bitter, but not undrinkable. Thinking this would be good and refreshing iced.

This is a surprising yin zhen I’ve been looking foard to trying. Steeping it smells amazingly floral, even across the room! I expected it to be too sweet from the aroma but it’s quite bright and citrusy. And extremely smooth. Perfect for post matcha rehydration. Thanks to Tealicious for the sample!

drank Dragonwell by Tealicious Teas

Thanks to Tealicious for the sample! This was a very nice nutty dragonwell. This is nice change from the raw nut note of most dragonwells; the flavors in this one are surprisingly toasted walnut and cashew. A little like Ti Kwan Yin, almost. The entire sample bag held up to three six ounce steeps, though I don’t think I got the steeping times quite right. Fortunately, this dragonwell is forgiving.

drank Peach Oolong by Tealicious Teas

I received this tea today as a generous sample from Tealicious Teas! Thanks again! I love when a company provides a nice size sample so that I’m able to play around with different preparations and don’t feel as bad if I really mess up an attempt or two. This tea has a very candy peach scent rather than a natural peach scent, but it is a very juicy, inviting aroma. The first sip of this medium roast oolong didn’t give me much. I mean, there isn’t much of a taste. I added a bit of sugar in an attempt to coax the peach flavor out, but…..not much besides sugary water. Usually a bit of sugar can “hide” in a tea, but in my cup it is very obvious that sugar was added. I don’t know if perhaps I’ve had so many strongly flavored teas today that I’m unable to appreciate a lightly flavored tea but I’m not really feeling this tea. If a second attempt proves to be more successful, I will change the rating but as it is, I’m pretty glad this was a free sample.

Oh, so sad. I am looking for a replacement for the Earl Grey de la Creme from SpecialTeas. And I was hoping this might be it. Unfortunately, it isn’t.

I got this from the wonderful free sample offer from Tea Licious (Thank you so much!) and tried it today at work. Too much bergamot for me. It triggered my “you’re drinking perfume” taste bud. I couldn’t finish the cup.

Now, it’s possible that I used too much leaf, and I will try making it again, to see if I messed it up. And if so, I’ll definitely change the rating. But really, this tea just wasn’t for me.

I have been searching the world over for a replacement for this tea as well. I found this post via an internet search and am wondering if you have managed to find something as good yet? I’m starting to despair. This is THE TEA in our house. . . Please let me know – any help you can offer to further my quest would be very much appreciated!

Distinctly Teas had a good one, but I have no idea how easy they are to order from. Good luck. I’m still searching myself.
