Shields Date Garden

Made myself a very strongly steeped mug of this one while working in the lab today and it was nice. Definitely very malty and just a little bit bitter/astringent but the hint of sweetness from the date crystals helped take some of that edge off. Probably would have been better with a bit of milk, but alas no milk in the lab kitchen this week.

#SVTTB Round Two – Tea 22/???

Wasn’t sure what to expect here, but turns out the name was very, very literal. I probably could have called that, but oh well. Decent breakfast style black tea with lots and lots of body and a more rainin-y malty kind of taste. It does have date crystals in it, so it’s presweetened but I quite liked the balance of sweetness. Date adds just a hint of darker, dense fruity notes that add to an overall baked kind of feeling – like a fig newton, but with dates instead. Would probably be quite pleasant and enjoyable with a little milk too!
