Sipdown (317)
I got this in a March 2018 SipsBy box and it just never seemed like something I’d like so I kept looking it over. It also is meant to put you to sleep and I usually noticed it midday when I wasn’t looking for that potential effect. Then, when I did want a sleepy tea, this never came to mind. Unfortunately, this has been overlooked so often that it’s passed its best before date (January 1, 2019) by more than a year.
After making Night Owl though, which is supposed to be highly caffeinated, this caught my eye. I highly debated about just taking the sample and passing it on since the ingredients of Meadowsweet, Catnip, Thyme, Lemon Balm, Calendula, Heather, Valerian have absolutely no appeal to me. Curiosity got the better of me so I begrudgingly brewed up a small cup. It’s fine and almost minty with some nice lemon but the other more herbal notes are definitely not for me as I suspected so the rest of this is being passed on.
This is hands down the best sleepy time tea I’ve ever had. The flavor is very mild, almost grassy, and has no unpleasant or peculiar aftertastes. Very good with a small drop of honey to round out the flower/grass profile.
By and large, it does require a substantial steep time to get a really good flavor, but that’s also nice because you aren’t drinking it uncomfortably hot.

Sipdown (528)!
Another sipdown that’s not really a sipdown as I passed this one along to a coworker as well. It’s not something I’m going to miss; I had a hard time making this tea work for me as it has a lot of herbal ingredients that I just don’t like very much in general, and the combination of all of those things is very overpowering to me. Props though for being a nice afternoon/evening kind of blend though because this one is really relaxing, and sometimes I can put up with a tea I don’t like the taste of just because it puts me in a good head space/helps me unwind and de-stress.

From my Sipsby box.
Sadly, I opted out of December’s box ‘cause I went a little too hard on my BF/CM ordering but I WILL resume the box again in January so that I’m still doing the three months I told myself I’d commit to. I am really enjoying the box so far, so I want to continue with it. Just, during a month where I’ll be getting a lot less tea incoming…
This is my least favourite tea I’ve gotten from the box so far – and to be fair I don’t hate it and it’s totally drinkable, but I don’t much like it either. The mint/lemon balm are actually nice enough, and I really don’t mind them at all in any sort of tea. What’s getting to me is the chamomile – which I knew would probably happen as soon as I saw it in the blend, and the oregano. I actually thought I’d like the oregano in this because I usually like savory/herby teas quite a bit but it’s too much for me and it’s really spinning the flavour of this cup in a negative way. There’s also a REALLY strong licorice taste too, which I’m not vibing very well with either.
I don’t know – I want to like it because the company seems really cool and after reading more about them I really like everything they’re trying to do/stand for. However, loving something in theory is a lot different than in practice. Like, in theory I think snakes are lovely little happy noodles but in practice they scare the shit out of me and make me really uncomfortable.
This tastes like minty oregano medicine – and that’s not doing it for me.
