This tea is enjoyable, but not great. It seems like a basic Shui Hsien oolong (according to my very limited knowledge of Shui Hsien teas). You get a good amount of roastiness in the aroma and flavor, a nice orangish-amber color, a medium body, with flavors or honey, walnuts, some woody notes, and a slight tang. I’ll give it to them that maybe the flavor does linger somewhat. Very smooth and well-behaved, and nothing really seems to stand out much about this tea. Doesn’t seem have the delightful tart cherry notes or floral aspects I’ve found in other versions of this tea, so definitely not a favorite of mine.
I am surprised with the quality of the tea, as I expected it to be somewhat worse as a certified USDA organic tea. Nothing wrong with that in and of itself, but sometimes I understand organic certifications can be a way to make less salable tea varieties more salable. And I haven’t been impressed with some of the other organic teas I have tried.
Preparation
Wish I could identify which region/style of tea this is. Foojoy doesn’t give this information. It is difficult to find and many of the Foojoy teas seem to be discontinued, so if I knew the variety of tea I could probably find similar stuff. The dry leaf appearance is very similar to Mao Feng and/or “Clouds and Mist” style teas I currently have, so maybe this is one of those varieties.
I don’t normally drink green teas but bought this on a whim. I visited T&T Ginseng in Las Vegas and was pleasantly surprised with their lineup of teas. Between this one and the Foojoy Gold Lungching I purchased, I think I’ve changed my mind about green teas. This one has aroma of green beans, and a pleasing blend of green beans and nuttiness in the flavor. Nice and strong flavors without much bitterness.
Flavors: Green Beans, Nuts
Preparation
As an update on this one – It is a few weeks after I ran out, and I am definitely craving some more of this tea. Initially I felt like Foojoy’s Lungching was the better of the three greens I purchased from the Foojoy Gold line, but now I prefer this one. The spring freshness really comes through and make this a more powerful tea, I think. It is unlike any other green tea I have had – Nice and surprisingly strong, but not devolving into smokiness or more earthy tones. The strength comes through in the brighter fresh green and lightly nutty notes, all the while avoiding overly bitter notes.
Yet another from the traveling tea box! I seem to be on a tea tasting spree! Also, it seems like TeaEqualsBliss is the only one to have tried these Foojoy teas, or to have written tasting notes anyway. I’ve tried three thanks to her, and they are all delicious! Usually greens are too boring for me, but not when they are like this one! This is nice — light, buttery, sweet, almost like an oolong but sort of brothy, like it’s a light base for a soup. I needed a light tea after all the high in caffeine, indulgent teas I’ve had today. Everyone should definitely give Foojoy teas a try. They seem to be very basic, but their flavors are very complex and amazing quality.
Shame on me – I kind of forgot I had this one hanging around – unopened! Well, today…I fixed that!
The leaves look like Young Hysson-type but the aroma is vegetal. I’ve had a few Cloud & Mist type teas before BUT this does taste quite different. It has a rounder-brothy flavor. It’s not as flat…not as grassy but not quite vegetal. It’s a bit sweet. It’s not bitter at all! It’s smooth. Very nice!
