Mastress Alita’s sipdown challenge – November Tea #4-A smoky/roasted tea
I really didn’t want to finish this tea… though it is one of my earliest teas. It may very well be the smoky tea that did NOT shove me away from smoky teas in my early tea drinking days. If it wasn’t this smoky tea, another one might have pushed me away from smoky teas forever. Perfect with a blueberry muffin. Word to the wise if you’re ever in Bangor, Maine looking for goodies to eat, try Bagel Central!! The name is such a travesty as they have a billion AMAZING desserts and not just bagels (though the bagels are also my favorite that I have ever had.) They should be called Dessert Central. I will miss this tea. HOWEVER, I did not expect a google search for this tea to tell me that this shop still exists! Wow! Though I doubt this tea is still the same now… Looking at some of their other tea names, they might source some of their teas from English Tea Store…

Mastress Alita’s sipdown challenge – June Theme: A June Wedding Tea #1
I might try finding a bunch of teas to fit this theme all month. I thought finding a tea old, new, borrowed, blue would be too easy if I was looking for a tea to fit only ONE of those categories! So my rule is that each tea must fit TWO of those options. This tea fits for OLD and BORROWED. It’s one of my oldest teas. I think it was part of the first ever teabox I participated in, and then when the teabox was done, there was some of this remaining, so I liked it so much the person who ended up with the teabox actually sent me the remainder of this tea and another one I liked! So it is “borrowed” on multiple levels. Flavors are fading now but it still has the most unique smoky flavor of any smoky tea I have ever had. Next time a sipdown.
Additional notes: This one is my favorite smokey tea. It’s getting on in years (but it’s rarrree..I can’t find it anymore), but it still tastes great… maybe not as nice as it once was. It may be because I don’t steep the leaves the entire time that I’m drinking the cup though. It just shows that I really should be drinking the teas that I have instead of adding more to the collection. I’ll work on that…maybe. I had the water all boiled for a second steep, but then I dropped the leaves on the floor! Noo!
jing tea has a russian caravan tea on there site, maybe you should look it up if you can’t find it where u used to buy it?
thanks for mentioning that one. I like that the jing blend has keemun and Yunnan in it! Maybe I’ll buy it when my stash has settled a bit.
This has such a distinct smoky scent. Russian Caravan teas really like to be the strongest smelling teas, but they taste good. I keep my Russian Caravan away from my other teas because it is so overpowering. They are pine smoked, so they smell like a really nice campfire. This one is great. It would make for a great fall or winter tea… for some reason I was drinking it while it was 80 degrees out. I think it would be interesting to have a Russian Caravan tea have a marshmallowy &/or graham crackery taste so it would be like S’mores around a campfire!
