French Friday! This sample is courtesy of Dustin, thank you!

Woke up with a terrible migraine and just wanted to sleep (I’m sure my job is going to wail on me come next week for being out on a weekend-adjacent day… because I apparently have control over when my chronic migraine happens rolls eyes ) so this morning when I fed the cat, I dumped this in a cold brew bottle, stuck it in the fridge, and headed back into bed. It’s now noon and I’ve woken again, and hoping the tea is sufficently steeped over the last four hours.

The oolong base in this is a slightly roasty sort, which I wouldn’t have guessed from the leaf. The description from the company says it has “exotic fruit flavor” and pineapple, but I don’t really taste either. I taste the roasty base, which, cold brewed, is tasting a little nutty and graham biscuity, but the only flavor I can pick out aside from the base oolong is sort of a mild blood orange. It’s reminding me a bit of a choco-orange dessert in flavor, which I really have no complaints about.

The description sounded in the vein of a “tropical” flavor profile hense thinking it would be a good cold brew candidate. Ultimately that isn’t what I got, but I’m still enjoying this cold, roasty oolong during a snap heat wave.

Thanks for letting me try it!

Ok a little surprised there’s not more tasting notes on this, or Angelina’s Paris in general. Yes Yes it’s golden crop is the dessert but it’s such the tourist shop- so many people have gifted this or used as a souvenir.

I know I have, it’s an iconic gift. Also a really easy gift to impress general tea drinkers or Paris romantics. The black tea lovers in your life would generally appreciate this tin. It’s inner compartment is plastic instead of metal all over but overall pretty well sealed. Brew it properly and you have mellowly fruit and buttery chestnut tea that’s perfect for autumn. Over brew and you get a strong black with a lingering sweetness and coppery feel on your tongue.

Does it taste like Angelina’s Mont Blanc? No that’s the stuff of the gods, don’t fool yourself- get the chestnut cream if you wanna bring some of that amazing pastry home. This is tea- elegant and strong with little bits of sweet roasted chestnut. Goes well on its own or with milk, feel free to sweeten with maple syrup instead to match it’s maple chestnut notes.

Clear yellowish-amber liquor, medium bodied, with a touch of astringency. Drinkable, but not particularly smooth Smells sweet at first, with a hint of licorice. Tastes predominately of chestnuts. Indifferent with milk and sugar.

Flavors: Apple, Maple Syrup, Orange Blossom, Toffee

Hahaha. I quite enjoyed this tea, even though Sil didnt. Must be because I don’t actually mind the whole flowery thing. I felt the chocolate was pretty nice, although yes somewhat flowery. Finished the mug pretty quick without thinking about it.

Probably if it were less flowery, more people would appreciate the actually pretty good chocolate flavour.

Preparation
3 tsp 16 OZ / 473 ML

soooo this tea is inspired by the dessert…which, for those of you who don’t know, is like a vnailla chestnut flavoured decadence. I can see how this tea is reminiscent of that….though there’s a note to this that doesn’t sit well with me. thankfully the tea base itself isn’t terrible so it’s still a decent cup of tea. It will just never be my favourite when i think of all the other teas i have or could have hahaha

For a company that does divine hot chocolate…they need to work on their idea of what a chocolate tea is. Smells like flowers….looks like lots of pretty flowers….tastes like…

chocolate FLOWERS. blaaaah. this would be kinda decent without the flowers. I’m thinking that this is going to be making it’s way out west haha Nice enough blend but for sure not a tea for ME

how is it possible that i went to the Rue de Rivoli Angelina and did NOT get the Mont Blanc dessert?
how!!??
i guess i will have to return to paris after all.
plus there is so much more tea shopping i have to do there.

i don’t really remember this tea. i actually suspect that Angelina is a bit over hyped by tourism. but also i was exhausted by then and was just trying to get as many experiences in as possible. even if what i really needed was a rest.
i know it’s sad, but neither sleeping when you have limited time, nor a desensitized experience is ideal. i just opted for the latter is all.

Well so im finally back from my europe trip and i had the fortune to stop by the tea salon of Angelina in Paris. I bought, since im a green tea fan, this yunnan tea, and by tasting it with the macarrons I made sure to buy too i had only one word…EXCELENT. Very strange flavor kinda pinapple with a sweet smell and a light color. This reminds me to the mind games of wine, first tastes sweet and then a little hmmm spicy!!!! definatly something worth to try, besides the place is a total beloved “endroit” to enjoy the finest quality tea with some nice desserts.
