Free sample from Adagio. I don’t love fruity black blends generally, and this was okay, but nothing special. Adagio’s black base isn’t fantastic, and the fruit flavoring is fine, but it really didn’t excite me. It was all right cold, but I wouldn’t want it again.
That cinnamon though…
I even added a little milk to try and tame the beast, but the monster is too strong.
If you want a cup of tea that is like drinking spicy cinnamon gum, I have the perfect tea for you.
Flavors: Cinnamon
Preparation
I don’t like Adagio’s cherry flavoring, but I still grabbed a single serving of this one from the last TTB because I do love marzipan. Unfortunately, the cherry really dominated the flavor. I didn’t taste any marzipan, and the oolong base was pretty thin/nonexistent. Oh well!
I picked out all the butterfly pea flowers before steeping because they taste terrible. And the flowers made up over half the leaf, so this tea has definitely not been a good value for me. This still brews up very dark, and the flavor is quite sour. It tastes like tart berries, and I also taste something much too savory. This one just ends up not working on any level for me. I’ve tried it three times, one of which was cold brewed, and I’m sorry to say I’m not a fan. I wish I could taste the papaya!
Received a sample from Devon and somehow… I am not a fan (again!). I like EG, I don’t mind rooibos.
It tasted pretty much citrusy, but it was not bergamot. Rather lemon-orange. Rooibos was very, very woody, almost overpowering the citruses. Also some other notes, some say medicinal, decayed wood… and I am not sure. But it was a bit off.
Also, it does not last long as a aftertaste. I know I am somehow biased drinking EG by Birchall (which has got black tea base); but the flavour there lasts much longer. This was like a sip, wait five seconds, and it’s gone.
Very, very forgettable tea.
Preparation
Free sample from Adagio. The turmeric scent here is so strong that I wasn’t looking forward to it. I put it in the fridge, and actually it’s pretty good! It’s mildly spiced and a bit fruity. I wouldn’t buy this, but I’d totally drink it again. The turmeric isn’t too much at all. The lemon flavor is quite natural and refreshing, yet not at all sour. What a nice surprise!
I got this as a freebie Communitea item with my last order and I LOVE it. It smells very strong but doesn’t taste as strong as it smells and for once, its a good thing. The spices in this are perfect giving me a very yummy tasting green yerba tea and honestly I have never enjoyed a mate before this. Definitely recommend this for a good morning cup. Also the name is just awesome
I liked this one well enough – it was nice and sweet and pleasantly breakfasty. Put in one cube of sugar and brewed five minutes. The black tea comes through without being overshadowed with the non-artificial flavoring. This was a leftover with an advent calendar, Day 14, that I was inconsistent when going through.
Preparation
A caffeine-free tea today in Advent from Devon.
I have opened it when I came from work and somehow I feel fine it is a caffeine-free tea today! I have been working more physical today, moving several wooden crates (each approx. 70 kg/154 lbs) from pallet to another one. I wasn’t doing it myself, of course we were two for that… but I don’t actually feel tired as other days?
So, as I said, I feel fine it is a caffeine-free and honestly I probably never had pure honeybush. Yes, pure rooibos several times. But honeybush?
I found out it’ s nice. Quite woody, with some sweet and I dare to say, honey, aftertaste.
But that’s all folks! It has nothing else to deliver. Nothing I would have to try again on its own.
Preparation
Free sample from Adagio. Well this one tastes like a very mild EG creme. It’s decent, but simple and a little bit fake. It’s a little fruity, though I don’t really taste the rose hips or hibiscus. I don’t know what’s up with this name. Adagio definitely has better EGs, but this one was fine!
This is the 3rd black biluochun I have tried now. Its not the best, but its also not the worst.
It still has the flavor I am familiar with, almost bready like (I really need a better word) but this is still a little bit harsher than the Golden Snail I have loved for so many years. There is some astringency which isn’t bad hot, but becomes pronounced as it cools.
Its not bad, but not something I would be willing to switch to over my other option.
As with most flavored Adagio teas I have tried recently, I am underwhelmed by this one. It smells of more than just tea but I would never in a million years have guessed it was supposed to be cream. It also has a flavor, and while not bad, is never something I would have described as actual real cream. Maybe, as someone else mentioned, a creamer. I never use the stuff, so I can’t say if this is what the tea tastes like. Though I do know most of the creamers I have seen have no actual dairy in any of them. So maybe this tastes like a creamer?
Anyway its not bad. My curiosity was mainly piqued because I do have some interest in making a few of my own blends. And its difficult to design one if you don’t actually know what the various components actually taste like.
This tea is one of the strangest experiences I’ve had from Adagio. I got the holiday sampler pack in the little tins and while the tin is adorable I did lose a teaspoon full of tea trying to open it (my fault, but the tin lid spat tea everywhere!)
Admittedly this left me slightly grumpy. My doubts about this tea increased when I opened it to see, not chunks of candy cane like the reviews led me to believe, but tiny puddles of melted sugar with bits of black tea stuck to them. Strange, but the parcel had been left in the post room for a while – it was probably too warm in there and melted the sugar.
Then, I brewed the tea according to the directions on the tin. The smell was unbelievable, and not in a good way. Not at all like candy cane or any discernable black tea, more like melted butterscotch mixed with something bitter.
Ignoring my nostrils, I took a sip and immediately regretted my choices. This tea tastes of a bitter, astringent, cheap black tea mixed with chemical. No peppermint, no sweetness, just cheap flavouring. I gave this one to my husband who also pronounced it ‘undrinkable’, despite loving flavoured teas I’ve not been able to get on with.
I love their chestnut tea and I buy my daily drinking genmaicha from Adagio, so I found this extremely disappointing.

Adventaggedon Day Twenty Four – 3/6
I don’t have a lot of Christmas traditions outside of Adventaggedon, but one of them it watching Olive The Other Reindeer every year, so I decided that since this was the most festive of my teas today that it would be the one I’d drink while watching.
I actually enjoyed this blend quite a lot. The peppermint was very crisp and cooling but also just a bit sweet and it worked very well with the rich, creamy white chocolate flavour. Most impressively, all of the flavours were bold enough to cut through the haze of the cold I’m experiencing. It was a really nice moment today and it felt like a really meaningful way to close out Adagio’s advent.
I’m not sure if I’d do this advent again – it was the most repetitive feeling out of all my advents, and there weren’t a lot of teas in it that were totally new to me. I’m glad I did it though, because it was nice having one or two new discoveries – especially that Cherry Marzipan Oolong! Maybe if Adagio ever did an advent with their fandom blends…
