I read about this tea on someone’s tea blog. It’s a mild genmaicha, which is very nice for a change. Smooth and terribly delicious iced. It has a nice sweetness to it, light though. It is good for 2 rebrews. I would consider buying this again. Thank you Shinobicha for letting me try this!

I finished up the last bit with lunch today. Genmaicha never fails me. Delicious. :)

Delicious! My boyfriend wanted “that tea I made last night”, which was this! SO CUTE!! >_< So this was our breakfast tea! So delicious and I love how this stands up well to multiple steeps.

Delicious afternoon tea. Nutty and comfy! I love the large bits of dried brown rice (almost like rice crispies) and popped popcorn. The leaves are needle-like and dark green and thin. Very good tea indeed. I received this from Shinobicha. Thank you! I really enjoy a good genmaicha. I always think of the genmaicha I drink when going to my favorite Japanese restaurant.

This tea is not overly ricey (is that a word??). The sweetness of the bancha comes through as such a delicious aftertaste; it makes me want to compare this bancha to others and see if it really is a superior one (it tastes like it at least!).

I tried an experiment in the last week – I took about 2 TBS of this an put it in a dry pot, and roasted it over medium high heat for about 3 minutes. I did it a little too long, as some of it burned (it is such a difficult balance, because it goes from green to roasted to burnt VERY fast). It wasn’t too bad, though not as good as other houjichas I’ve bought.

I’d like to try it again but take it off the fire sooner. Freshly made houjicha (or in this case houji-genmaicha) sounds like it would be amazing.

You know what, even though I am biased toward this tea, it is actually VERY good genmaicha. The genmai isn’t so overpowering that I can’t taste the sencha, and the sencha is actually delcious – the aftertaste lingers in my mouth for a long time, and it is a fruity sweetness that is so yummy.

So if you’re thinking of getting genmaicha (without matcha) and you already like it (because they only have 200g, which is a lot), order from them $12 and free shipping …there aren’t many places here in the US you could order from and get that price. (In the grocery store you could, but 1TTEN actually pops the brown rice right before they ship it to you, so it is as fresh as possible…).

Yes, it sounds like I’m promoting them, and I am a little bit I admit, but I wanted to add another note to this tea because it is actually very good.

The leaf itself smells very strongly of seaweed and popped rice. The flavor is pretty good, but since my only other experience with this tea is with Matcha, it is hard for me to compare. Unfortunately or fortunately, the water heater at my office heats water to 170 (yes, I brought a thermometer to work once to test it!), so perfect for Sencha, but not quite hot enough for Genmaicha.
Either way, this is still very good. And the coworkers I shared it with also liked it. Maybe this isn’t the best Genmaicha out there, but I’m giving it high marks because it was free and good quality for my taste!

And even if I hadn’t gotten it free, it would have been incredibly cheap – $12 for 7.1 oz.
