1598 Tasting Notes
Another sample from ozli, who has done a great job doubling my tea collection with all the samples she has sent me!
I used the entire package to make a 12oz cup but I wish I had held a little back to experiment with. I love the banana chocolate aroma. I really like how it tastes too, but it’s just slightly astringent and I’m not sure if a shorter steep time or a splash of cream is all I need to make this 90+.
Maybe I’ll try it again if they bring it back next winter!
Preparation
I think this is my first green rooibos. I am surprised at how good this tea is. It’s like eating a warm apple crumble. Or a homemade granola bar.
With each sip, I’m getting tons of nuts that slowly fade away to succulent green apple. It has a pleasant warm nutty mouthfeel; this is a hearty tea! It’s also naturally sweet.
I will probably have to repurchase it when I run out, especially as the rooibos in this is actually quite mild.
Preparation
I keep seeing this one being mentioned, and somehow I forgot to pick it up in all my Try Me packs. Sigh.
Does rooibos actually have a flavour? I keep seeing people say “I couldn’t taste the rooibos” or saying it’s mild, or whatever and I’m thinking…….. I have no idea what you’re on about! What does it taste like?!
ALSO, this tea sounds yummm.
Today is a “grumpy, drag myself out of bed in a foul mood with not enough sleep along with an angry tired baby who woke me every hour or so” kinda day.
We’re roleplaying today and I was totally not into it but we ran to Tim Horton’s for an iced cap and timbits and I’m double-fisting it with my lovely kick me in the face Assam tea.
Things are looking up. Also, the baby has been asleep for nearly two hours. Win!
Tardis Sipdown! I actually enjoyed this more than I thought I would. I’d heard that Adagio teas weren’t great, but I’m tempted to buy more!
So, being a tea snob? Not always that great. I decided that to finish up my pack I should ‘cheat’ and add cream/sugar to this.
WOW. So I guess I should just do this with all my chocolate teas when they taste too thin. Just a dash of cream and this has plumped right up. It actually tastes like a milk chocolate orange. I’ll bump my rating up a little with the caveat that cream is essential.
Preparation
Ugh, don’t you just hate that? I prefer my teas naked too, but sometimes wonder if I’m missing out. I guess I should just start trying it now and then to make sure.
Another sample from Valerie! Thx!
And finally, an earl grey blend that doesn’t overwhelm me with perfumy bergamot notes. Not sure what that was about but I’m happy it passed.
Smell: I know it’s blackberry, but the smell reminds me of plump juicy blueberries. It makes me want blueberry pancakes so bad.
Taste: Pretty good! Slightly bitter, but not unpleasantly so, followed by vanilla/bergamot notes, and finishing with a nice berry taste. I would probably enjoy it more with a touch of cream or sugar.
I used to think Adagio was pretty expensive, but $9 for 3oz (or 4 oz) isn’t bad at all. I just don’t want to pay $24 for a pretty fandom tin, and yet…. I do. Damn you Adagio. But a 6 oz tin? Would that be double the size of a DavidsTea tin?
Yay, glad you liked!
Here’s what I’ve found:
a 3oz pouch of Adagio will fit comfortably in a DavidsTea tin with room to spare. Since TARDIS was actually 4oz, it filled up right to the very top (I had to leave a bit in the bag or the lid wouldn’t fit). I cut the label off the bag and taped it onto the tin so I could keep the artwork. :D
Cool! I would probably do the same because I would be buying it partly (mostly) for the pretty artwork!
I like that you can earn free teas if you make a blend and it sells. Or if you tweet what you’re drinking.
I pulled this one out of my decaf/rooibos tin without checking what it is. Ohai, Licorice!
This is a nice soft licorice blend. Maybe the orange is smoothing it over? It gives me that nice cooling mouthfeel that is present in most licorice teas (and which is why I swear by them when I have a sore throat), but without the added kick that DavidsTea Licorice Twist has. It also has 1/3 the ingredients, and I’m okay with that. I think I prefer this one! I used to love Stash’s Licorice Tea, and this is a pleasant upgrade.
Thanks ozli!
Preparation
Amazing! I’ve had such bad luck with teas the last day or so (with earl grey’s and variations of) that this was a relief. I love this one!!!
It had better be available in-store all year…
I drank a whole pot of this and enjoyed it with oranges, chocolate orange slices and cookies!!!
I think this one is turning out to be my favourite from DT in the last little while. The tea name and description make it look like it could be year long too.
i seriously love it also! (mint chocolate rooibos isn’t bad either.) i will keep this one in stock i’m sure. love love
Oh man, that sounds so good! CC is my fave tea, I can’t resist it. It’s really good as after-dinner tea…
BTW, got ZT order in yesterday so moar tea coming to yr house soon! (Mostly black/green!)
I’ll have to try mint chocolate rooibos (although maybe just 10-20g because I am often disappointed with chocolate in tea – I don’t like watered down cocoa.)
And that’s awesome Ozli! :D When I get my new orders in I’ll let you know what you can pick from.
And CrowKettle – I hope you’re right that this will be around! I think it’s part of the Winter Collection so I didn’t want to assume it was permanent, but… it seems like it would be amazing year round. And maybe iced?
Guys!!! DavidsTea on twitter just told me that it’s only here for the winter collection:https://mobile.twitter.com/DAVIDsTEA/status/286913475899453440
Guess I better run to the mall!
oh no, me too!! or in my case place another order online before the seasons up.
but no. i won’t. no more orders. i’m already embarrassed by how much money i spent on tea in 2012.
My mom surprised me with a pretty little glass teapot, and a few flowering teas. This is the first one!
I chose it because I felt like an oolong over a green, and the idea of a surprise flower inside intrigued me too. Though I suppose they all have flowers eh?
It tastes like a nice mellow oolong, with grassy notes and a flowery finish. I left the tea in the whole time and drank the pot myself so by the end of it the flowery notes dominated the blend. It’s an interesting experience and I like watching the tea brew in the pot. Pretty neat.
(if you’re a tea nerrrrrrd!)
I was going to post a picture of it but then I realized I no longer have a camera app on my phone! Whoops! I upgraded it to Cyanogenmod 10 yesterday (because my Galaxy 1 hasn’t been supported for a long time now) and I guess I missed a step. I think I figured it out. Will tinker while I sip away…
what a nice gift. it’s definitely the kind of thing i wouldn’t buy for myself cuz i have a fondness for black teas, but if someone gave it to me i’d relish the opportunity to excitedly taste and experience flowering teas for the first time. perfect gift for a TEA NERRRRD! high five
I had four perfect cups of this when I only had a sample amount. My tin has been lackluster so far, however. I’m extremely disappointed with the discrepancy. Maybe I had more chocolate and banana in the sample bag..
It’s a winter-only one, too?? At least I ordered a tin of Cocomint. :D
It’s part of the winter collection so they may pull it from stores in the spring, but I think you can still buy those ones online!
