308 Tasting Notes
Technically, this is my second time sipping this tea. The first time I didn’t get much flavor. I believe I let my water sit in the mug a bit too long before adding the leaves. Shame.
Today’s cuppa was lovely, sweet, and light but chock full of flavor. I’ve always been intrigued by the idea of a tea that tastes like cotton candy, but I’ve yet to meet one that actually delivers. Cotton candy (or candy/fairy floss, if you’re on the other side of the pond) was one of my favorite sweets as a child. This tea tastes like pink cotton candy dissolving on your tongue. The strawberry flavor is more tart than ripe, and I’m attributing that to the addition of hibiscus in this blend. I’m really enjoying this, much more than I thought I would. The other ingredients aren’t easy to distinguish, but the blend is mixed well. I think I’ll add it to my list of teas to cold-steep when my Hario filter-in bottle arrives.
Cococabana Coola + Main Squeeze (1:1), lightly sweetened with stevia, iced.
I just finished off my 20g sampler bag of Cococabana Coola this morning. Truthfully, it’s like a tropical vacation in my mouth. Of the fruity herbal blends I’ve tried from Bluebird Tea Co, this one is my favorite. It’s really flavorful so it masks the flavor of Main Squeeze, which I don’t mind. I’m drinking Main Squeeze for the stimulant boost more than the flavor. I’m holding out until the summer collection is released, but I’ll definitely be adding a tin of this to my next Bluebird order.
I had a bit of this left from my previously reviewed sample. I steeped it with what was left of my Raspberry Punch (Tealyra) sample to enjoy over ice this afternoon. Hibiscus, pomegranate and raspberry with a tiny bit of astringency from the black and green teas. Yum. Tart, slightly sweet, fruity and delicious. I’m contemplating a DT order to stock up on a few blends to ice this summer. I’m definitely ordering a bag or two of Pom Diggety. It didn’t sound like something I’d be incredibly jazzed about (rooibos AND lemon myrtle – meh), but it’s really grown on me.
I felt like a hot cuppa this morning so I reached for an oldie but a goodie. My scoop was heavy on the coconut flakes, but I don’t mind that at all. If I could somehow manage to find a tea that combines the roasted coconut flavor of Fantasy Island with the awesome raspberry and cake flavors of Vicky’s Sponge Cake, I’d be one happy camper. Maybe I need to just buy some flaked coconut, toast it myself and add it to Vicky’s Sponge Cake…but I digress. I added a scant amount of stevia and a tiny glug of almond milk. It’s exactly what I needed on a Tuesday morning – smooth, sweet and comforting.
A friend sent a sample of this in a recent package. I didn’t have high hopes because green teas, straight or flavored, aren’t really my jam. I wanted something fruity, refreshing and light to enjoy with my lunch today, so I decided to give this a whirl.
I didn’t know what the ingredients were and I didn’t bother googling before preparing the tea, but I must say I’m very pleasantly surprised. It sort of reminds me of Honeycrisp Apple in that the base is a blend of green tea and hibiscus. It’s really delicious over ice with a tiny bit of stevia to soften the tartness. There’s a fair bit of raspberry flavor which is nice, given the short steep time.
I don’t have a lot of green teas in my collection. I believe Honeycrisp Apple and Toasted Walnut are the only two I have in large quantities, but I could see myself enjoying a lot of this Raspberry Punch over the summer. I may have to place an order soon.
Flavors: Hibiscus, Raspberry, Tart
Ruby Red + Main Squeeze (1:1), iced, sweetened with stevia.
This is a great combo for a Monday morning when you just cannot get your act together.
Also, I think I’m just going to keep adding random fruit blends to Main Squeeze. I don’t like Main Squeeze enough to repurchase it (at least not in large quantities), but the flavor’s unoffensive and pleasant. I like that, when mixed, it doesn’t compete with other flavorful, tropical-y blends.
I’m hoping to make a significant dent in my DT stash in the next month or so. Preparation is key. The majority of my teas are teas I prefer iced/cold, so it’s really just a matter of getting them into the pitcher…
Main Squeeze + Ruby Red (2:1), with stevia, iced.
Last night was a rough night for Spurs fans. I needed some extra help waking up this morning, so mate tea it is. I’m glad I had both teas hanging out in my desk drawer. They’re both citrus-y teas so I figured they’d compliment each other quite nicely; they do. The Ruby Red adds a nice grapefruit kick, too.
