308 Tasting Notes
I think this tea has worked its way up to my top tea from this year’s summer collection. I made a pitcher of this a few days ago and have been sipping it with dinner for the past few days. I liked it the first time I tried it, but I’ve recently been enjoying it lightly sweetened, over ice, and with a fair amount of lime juice (the juice of one small lime for a 16-ounce glass). Heavenly. I’m definitely going to need to stock up before it disappears. Total surprise to me.
I’m going to mix it with Melon Drop the next time I make a pitcher.
I’m also tempted to make Sour Watermelon ice cubes and lime simple syrup…and throw them in a blender with some tequila. Because…day drinking is a thing.
I received this as a sample with a recent order. I wanted, so badly, to love it. I love the combination of berries and citrus and I don’t mind spices in black tea blends, but, unfortunately, the combination of ingredients just didn’t work for me. I didn’t find the level of spice to be overpowering, I just don’t think the flavors meshed well. Blackberry and lime is a flavor combination I can get behind. Blackberry and lime and vanilla and bergamot and cinnamon and clove…whoa. I would’ve liked more vanilla, and I think dried orange or tangerine or dried lime (or citrus peel, for that matter) would’ve been a nice addition. I try to avoid teas with bergamot in them because it’s just not a flavor I enjoy. It’s not a tea I would’ve purchased, but it was an interesting blend to try.
I recall not loving this tea the first few times I tried it, and my opinion hasn’t really changed. For all the positive reviews, I thought it was just a standard fruity tea. Personally, I would’ve liked more “tropical flavors” and less cranberry. It’s not something I’d need to restock quickly, but it’s a pleasant tea. I’ll enjoy sipping down what I have in my stash over the summer.
I’ve realized that strawberries are a hit or miss ingredient for me in teas, especially in black tea blends. I’m finding that it almost has to be the primary flavor in a black tea for it to jive on my taste buds. I don’t dislike the blend, but I probably would’ve loved it had the strawberry been excluded altogether. Another delicious base and the other berry flavors are quite nice. The bergamot and bourbon essence are not really discernible at all. I’ve had it both hot and iced. It makes for a pleasant little cuppa, but, sadly, the combination of berries just didn’t work for me. I’ll sipdown the rest of my small stash, but it’s not a tea I’d repurchase.

The dry leaf smells exactly like butterscotch, but, once steeped, I get a very faint butterscotch flavor at the very beginning of each sip. It tastes primarily of caramel and marshmallow to my taste buds, and, while that’s not a bad thing, I was just hoping for more butterscotch flavor. In fact, it reminds me of a 52teas blend I tried last year – Sweet Caramel O’Mine. Imagine that tea with the addition of marshmallow root. I find that the base is quite tasty despite being CTC instead of whole leaves. All in all, not a bad cuppa. It’s not something I feel compelled to repurchase (my wallet is very happy about that), but I will happily sip down the rest.

A teapal sent me samples of the Malt Shop Collection, so I had a chance to try them all before placing my April Fools’ Day flash sale order.
This tea is an enigma to me. I’m not into floral teas (except for those with hibiscus in them). I don’t generally love DT’s flavored green tea blends. I’m not even a fan of crème brulées. This tea is delightful. I don’t love it straight, but, honestly, that’s no surprise since I sweeten most of my teas. With a few drops of stevia and a splash of dairy, however, it is such a tasty treat. I’m glad I don’t get much pineapple because that would’ve ruined it for me. The green tea base is smooth and light not bitter or astringent. It’s quite possibly my new favorite flavored green tea from DT, and that’s saying a lot because there aren’t many teas on that list.
I bought 150g during the flash sale, and I’m almost positive that I’ll buy more before it’s gone for good.

This tea was what I was hoping Raspberry Cream Pie would be. To my taste buds it tastes like liquefied fresh raspberries. It’s both tart and sweet, and, surprisingly, despite the white base and the short steep time, it’s really quite flavorful. It’s a great light full-on raspberry tea.

Ugh, carrots. All the carrots. I just can’t with these melon/carrot teas anymore. This wasn’t as bad as Luscious Watermelon, but it was still disappointing.
Cantaloupe is my favorite melon to eat, and I’ve been searching for a cantaloupe tea for awhile. I feel like back in the day Republic of Tea had a cantaloupe tea that was really tasty, but I could be imagining that altogether.
To my tastebuds this blend tastes like a fairly nondescript melon tea with a very prevalent carrot flavor. It’s kind of like one of those hollowed out watermelons filled with a melon ball salad (made from every available kind of melon) that’s been dressed in carrot juice. Cringe. I should’ve known better. Carrot is one of those ingredients that I can always pinpoint in a tea. It’s a flavor that always lingers on my palate as well.
I bought 50g because I wanted to try cold-steeping before giving up the ghost. We’ll see how that goes.
Flavors: Carrot, Melon
The coffee flavor really overwhelmed the cuppa. The orange note was present at the very end. It tasted like someone mixed Mocha Latte with a black tea base and added some orange essence. I’m glad I just got sample and didn’t order any on impulse. It sounded really promising. While it wasn’t a bad cuppa, I was hoping for more orange flavor.
Flavors: Chocolate, Coffee, Mocha, Orange
I swear, Anne over at 52Teas has really mastered flavored black teas. The base teas are so smooth and they always seem to compliment the other ingredients/flavors instead of competing with them. This is absolutely delicious. It’s one of the best vanilla black teas I’ve had…ever. I wish I had purchased more bags. I’m going to have to ration what’s left because I could drink this on a daily basis.
