630 Tasting Notes
I had a cup of this while cat sitting. I was surprised by how flavorful it is – most bagged teas don’t do anything for me. I used two because this a big mug and it was pretty flavorful. Not strong enough to be a big wake-me-up in the morning, but pleasant. It is definitely citrussy and tropical, though I can’t say I taste mango specifically.
Preparation
This is a nice, strong black tea. It seems to be mixed with a bunch of different blacks, and while I like black tea, I tend to find assam too intense without milk and I prefer my darjeelings a bit fruity. So for me, the flavors muddle here a bit into a blend that to me will work best with a splash of milk or as a base for stovetop chai.
Preparation
This is really good – it is creamy and floral. I like it gongfu and western style, but the gongfu is more nuanced. The first steeps begin very creamy and move to a sweeter, floral flavor, becoming almost juicy at the end. The western brew is similar, but more compacted – first steep being creamiest, second and third steeps being fruitier.
Preparation
I had a sample of this, and I am glad to have tried it. Maple sugar sounds like the exact kind of flavor I would love, as I love maple sugar. But this didn’t taste all that great – artificial, mostly. I wouldn’t get a bigger size, and I would probably rehome any future samples I got for some reason. It wasn’t awful or undrinkable though. Perhaps I need to stop going for maple teas.
I enjoyed this, but it pretty much tasted like a standard jasmine green tea to me. Strong flavor though, and it stood up to three steeps easily and was still flavorful at the end. If I weren’t ready to move on, I probably could have squeezed out a fourth.
I don’t think I’ve ever felt punched in the face by an orchid before. But this first steep was practically like chewing on an orchid dipped in butter. A full minute was FAR too long.
That said, the next 4 steeps were lovely. A minute and a half for the second steep worked out just fine, and the orchid was softer and the cream heavier. Each steep after gave pretty wonderfully until the very last, when it felt spent. I have never had an oolong this intense before, and I think with a reduced first steep, I’d get more out of the leaves in general. I would totally buy more of this knowing that.
Not for the faint of heart or haters of florals.
