1118 Tasting Notes
Another tea box tea!
I love a good Assam, and that’s just what this is. It’s rich and earthy, but it also has lots of sweetness and fruity notes. The sweetness comes at the end of the sip, and it leaves a nice lingering note of caramel. Yum! It is a touch astringent, but it’s a good thing as it works well with this tea. The flavors are really full and wonderful. So, I just read the company’s description of this tea, and they mention tobacco. Yes. That’s the earthy note at the beginning. A tiny bit smokey but mostly earth.
This one is a winner. I’m so glad I got to try it. Thanks Tea Sipper for putting it in the box. It’s delightful!
Another tea from the traveling tea box.
This is a nice, smooth cup. Nothing amazing or complex, but most certainly delicious and comforting. I can see myself reaching for this on those nights when I’m not craving an herbal but still want to avoid caffeine. It’s not at all astringent, and I’m sure it would be wonderful with cream and sugar. Tonight, however, I’m drinking it sans additions, and it is very nice.
I have enough tea leaves left for one more cup. I’ll probably sweeten that one (perhaps with some rock sugar?) just to see. If I like it as much as I think I will then I’ll be adding one more tea to my shopping list. Because, you know, I need one more tea on my shopping list. Yeah.
If you search in the discussion threads for teabox you’ll see several posts. I think there are 3 or 4 tea boxes going around right now. Basicly, someone will say they are starting a box and see if anyone is interested. If enough people sign up then the box will be started. If you sign up to participate then when the box gets to you you drink (or get samples for later) of any teas that strike your fancy. Then, you replace that tea with teas from your own stash and send the box on to the next person in line.
As long as everyone plays nice then the traveling tea boxes are a lot of fun. I know of at least one instance when a person received the box and kept it. People pitched in to make a new box, but it took a lot of the fun out of it. However, it’s neat to follow the threads and see who has which box and read what they think of the teas.
Sipdown!
I am really sad to see this one leave my cupboard. It has a wonderful base tea paired with a lovely coconut flavor . I wish more coconut flavored teas used toasted coconut. It really does make a difference. The flavor is intense without being artificial or leaving a bitter taste. It might overwhelm other flavors, but otherwise I’d say it’s worth the extra bit of effort.
I’m sure this tea will find its way back on to my tea shelf sooner rather than later. Definitely before the snowflakes start falling this tea’ll be back in my cup. If the toll for the bridge over to Philly wasn’t so insanely high I’d be tempted to make a trip to Premium Steap far more often than I do now (which is next to never)!
I used the Tea Randomizer (http://www.jaydeee.net/pickatea.php) this morning, and Lady Grey was the choice. I kind of shrugged to myself and set about preparing it. I thought that I only have a few tea bags left, so if nothing else it’ll help reduce my stash.
Once it was in my cup (with cream and sugar) I remembered that I really like this tea! Yes, it’s bagged, and no, it’s not the highest quality. However, it is very tasty. Lots of orange and black tea with some bergamot showing up every once in awhile. It’s simple, but sometimes simple is good. I sipped my tea while getting on with my morning chores, and rather enjoyed the whole process.
So yay for bagged tea, and Lady Grey, and the Tea Randomizer for making my morning that much simpler and that much tastier.
I should have been in bed hours ago, but I started browsing Reddit. That site has sucked away more hours of my life than I care to admit! Anyway, I sipped on this tea while reading Confession Bear posts. The tea has a great vanilla flavor and no caffeine. It’s a win/win!
And with that I am off to bed. I’m sure tomorrow I will need all the caffeine I can get!!!
I’m still totally in love with this tea. Unfortunately, I’m almost out! One, maybe two more lemon-y, cake-y cups, and then this tea will be gone. I’m sure I’ll be pouting when I remove it from my cupboard. For now though, I’m enjoying this wonderful tea!
i am just beginning to experience 52teas and i have NO idea how they make tea buttery without a) making it gross or b) actually adding butter! lol. but this is why they’re good.
Yeah, I have to say I bought this tea because I figured only Frank could pull it off. I still say it’s more lemon pound cake than gooey butter cake, but whatever it is it’s yummy!
I had high hopes for this one, but I am not a fan. I added sugar to the tea while it was still hot and then let it cool to room temperature before pouring it over ice. Even with the sugar this tea is incredibly tart. Mouth puckering, eye twitching, shivers-down-the-spine tart. Not something I’ll seek out in the future.
Another tea from the tea box!
The rose in this tea is lovely. It’s not overpowering, but it definitely lifts what would be a middle of the road Ceylon up a notch. The base tea has a bit of an edge to it, a tiny hint of bitterness. The rose flavor helps smooth the tea out, and it gives a fullness I think would be missing otherwise. Very nice.
This is from the traveling tea box. I still have a lot of samples from the box I need to try. If they’re all as tasty as this one I’ll be set for a while!
This tea was a delight. It immediately reminded me of this amazing baked French toast a friend of mine makes. Delicious! There were so many flavors mingling together – bread, cinnamon, almond, and butter. Then there was a sweetness that reminded me of melted powdered sugar on top of a warm beignet. So. Very. Good.
i need the ability to do bold italics and then i could emphatically spell out SIGH. the harder it try to be good, the worse i behave….
This is such a great iced tea. The banana and coconut meld together a bit more than when I drink it hot, and the base tea is nice and smooth. I don’t get a lot of creaminess, but I don’t find myself missing it either. A nice, cool, tropical treat. I wonder how it would taste with a bit of rum added… :)
