400 Tasting Notes
I was drinking this tea yesterday evening while having a live session on Instagram. I thought that I needed a ‘special tea’ for the occasion; which this one definitely had been.
The tea started with a sweet apricot flavor, with a bit of honey sweetness; following (after 5 steeps in) a leather-y flavor. As it progressed, it became more mouth-drying, which had ceased this morning. I definitely found that with each steep, this tea had changed, so no steep was the same; making for a wonderful session.

I had gongfu’d this on Sunday and finished the session before work yesterday morning. I first noted that the tea was bitter; however, after realizing that my water temperature was still at 195 F after the sheng I had brewed, I switched the temperature to 165 F. After a couple of steeps with the new temp, the leaf had managed to change. There were grassy & buttery notes, with a touch of astringency. I got to about 9-10 steeps before giving up. At that point, I was pushing the tea, but it was pretty much hot water with a touch of flavor. I had enjoyed this once I realized the mistake with the water temperature.

I had decided to grandpa style this at work last night. I was in need of caffeine and decided that shou might’ve been the best choice. This is definitely a great tea to be had grandpa’d simply due to the thick, creamy, and very smooth body. Overall, the sample had lasted much longer than normal—as all samples that are good do.
PS. I’m trying to get everything from previous sessions together since I have a lot of catching up to do! I tend to record every session on my phone, as well as write notes. Now that I’m running out of space on my phone and the notes are piling up, I figured it is time to start putting them up on Steepster. :P
This tea is smoooooth. I’m really enjoying the sweet notes (honey, fruit) that surround the tea itself. It starts out light, but increases—only when you push it with temp/time—which allows the tea to brew quite nicely. I’ve been enjoying this on and off today inside and outside of the house. I had decided to drop a quick note here on Steepster before grandpa-ing the rest of the leaf and play video games online with my brother.
Cheers, everyone! Happy Saturday! :)

This is probably the most clean sheng I’ve had so far in my journey. I shared this with a friend who is hit or miss with most puerh (he’s more of an avid black/green tea guy), but I kept chugging away as he moved on to something else.
What I like about this tea: It lasts a long while and keeps ‘progressing’ as it goes. Toward the beginning of the session, there is a slight bitterness, which dissipates after steep # 3 (I will note here that I usually brew at a lighter temp (195 F) with sheng puerh). This tea has a nice smooth, grassy, leathery, and floral note throughout; however, with each steep, one flavor trumps over the other. Strange, yes, but good. I’m really happy to have had the chance to 1. drink this; 2. finish the sample with a friend (for the most part).
“Tonight’s energy brought to you by…”
I needed a cup of coffee tonight, but didn’t want to grab any while working, so I grabbed my Kamjove and brewed this instead. It was very nice to have tea for once at work. I rarely have the time do make tea or even move from my desk. They take the whole, “Look busy” thing seriously. However, I figured to heck with it, I need tea; otherwise, you’ll have an angry worker who was already anxious for the day to end.
Notes; Chocolate, nutty, and oranges(?). Drank this for nearly two hours. Better than coffee.
“Old Reliable” from W2T
I had tried pulling the tea up on Steepster, but there seemed to be a glitch which didn’t allow me to review the tea directly, so I’m creating a note this way.
I will mention that when purchasing this online, my expectations weren’t high, but I had definitely wanted to get something ‘reasonably’ priced due to the fact that I was on a budget (tis the life of being a tea addict who has to ‘be an adult’ by paying the necessary bills (i.e. rent, school loans, etc.) and wanting to get something now and then). I digress. :P
However, this tea was a good price, so I picked a cake up. I will be honest, though. This tea was ‘meh,’ as the cool kids say. It definitely received its name well, by being adequate for my needs (cost, flavor, etc.), but that’s all it shall remain. I like it, but, it’s not the greatest of ripe puerh. It is good, but not great. What else can I say?
Notes: Thick body, earthy, & mineral-y. No huge changes throughout the session other than it becoming weaker in body and flavor; which is pretty much everything to be said about this tea.

I had a very quick session with this at home yesterday and have the rest of the leaf cold brewed for this afternoon at work. I’ve been too busy these days (and lazy when I’m not busy) to write a lot of reviews on the tea which I’ve been drinking. I started tea-ing a lot with friends, painting, writing, or working on Grad school stuff; which has been distracting me by allowing me to avoid the computer.
Notes: A very nutty/floral body throughout the tea.
This was definitely a wonderful delight to be had during my time before work yesterday. I’m sure it has bloomed well over night in cold water, too. My coworkers are noticing that I’ve been drinking more tea at my cubicle lately, so they’re always curious what each day will bring in my tea adventures. I would share this with them, but considering they’re all huge “Coffee Fuel Only” types, I’m sure this wouldn’t impress them as much…? One never knows…..
I know someone else who complains that tea is mouthdrying. I haven’t found too many examples. Toothpaste can be really bad, though.
It was brief. Didn’t last long. I still enjoyed it immensely.
Mouth drying is a thing. Teas can be astringent which causes a tightening in the mouth and a dry sensation. Some teas exhibit it more. It also can depend slightly on the individual or even the brewing device. It’s not something that we generally look for in a tea. For example in Mengsong today we had 3 teas that were super astringent and even made it feel like our mouth was dry even between our teeth. We didn’t buy those teas.
As I had mentioned, it only lasted a few moments. Might’ve been a mishap with my brewing methods. Once I kept flash steeping, it was fine. I have a tendency to let sheng sit for a bit long when I pre-occupied.
