516 Tasting Notes
I am so used to eating the plump berries out of my Blueberry jam tea post-steep, that I popped one of these berries in my mouth!
It was a juniper berry.
So I quickly drank the tea to get the piney-tasting bits out of my mouth. Beware the juniper berry!
Other than that – it’s a berry tea! Not my favourite but makes a nice summer iced tea, or creamy berry latte.
HAHAHAHAHA!!! Thanks for the heads-up! I don’t think I went after the berries in this one for whatever reason.
Oi, can I just drink one tea without spilling it all over myself? Obviously not.
Work is crazy you guys, is it the weekend yet? Nothing like filing a sexual harassment case to keep the stress down. not. Shout out to all the brave workers out there who aren’t afraid to stand up for their rights, and the rights of others! :D
Razzleberry! This is a great SBT!
It reminds me a bit of Black & Blue, which I really started craving after Liberteas shared hers with me in a swap. This one is a good substitute that I might keep in stock! The blend is sweet and full of flavour all on its own – I’m drinking a mix of the hot brewed tea and the coldbrewed. The flavour reminds me of rockets, or sweet hearts, without the tooth aching sweetness or chalkiness lol. I keep coldbrewing the same bag multiple times after the first hot brew – the bag has a lot of lasting power!
I also love how brewing with the instructions on the bag makes the perfect cup of tea! Usually recommended steep times are way off the mark (in my opinion) but this one is perfect and ILIKETHAT a lot!!!
This review was all over the place, but that’s how I feel today. SO there.
Yikes, glad it is the weekend, sounds like a rough start to the day??? :| I hate how everyone has all these SBT and I have none yet :( :(
I have wanted to try this tea for over a year. It kept going in my basket, then going out, popping in – then being replaced by other blends. Gah! Well I wanted a fullish basket for the latest order with 52teas, since it costs a bit more now to make an order – I need to make it count!
And count it did – with the recent rave reviews of this tea I had to finally try it and it definitely meets my expectations! I get a banana note in the dry smell that reminds me of banana bread with chocolate chips. After steeping, the smell is much chocolatier (real word!) and quite intoxicating!
The taste is nice and chocolaty – reminds me a lot of Chocolate Rocket but with even more chocolate and a little more banana taste too! For the life of me I can’t find a malted chocolate shake in Canada so I’ll just say that’s the malt. (I’ve had Whoppers and other malt ball candies, so I know the flavour I’m kind of looking for!)
I’m going to scroll through the other reviews and see if anyone has tried this iced and what their methods were? I would love to try this as an iced latte with whipped cream to get that chocolate milkshake taste. Any tips friends?
mm I’m getting a honey texture and flavour near the bottom of the cup. I like it! I should say that I didn’t have any additions this time around and it’s nice and sweet all on it’s own!
I swear someone said they had tried it iced! I thought it sounded really strange, but now that you’re mentioning ‘milkshake’… (All I can think of is Fuddrucker’s Chocolate Malt milkshakes, or whatever they were! Where it didn’t even all fit into one glass! Yum!)
oh yeeeah Fuddruckers! Dang I miss them. I miss Ruckers too! I spent a lot of money there as a child lol – I would do it again!
Ah good question – I’ll be honest with you, the mate flavour is pretty prominent. It’s extremely well blended and flavoured that it doesn’t stand out, however it’s definitely an integral part of the taste!
Yaaaaay! Bubblegum tea!
This is great – it’s like a sun tea (or even like a nestea with no sugar) but bubblegum flavour! I looooved the ease of the tea bag too! It was the perfect size, smelled delightful and was so easy to use!
mm the bubblegum flavour is spot on – I only used 2 tsp of sugar for the entire 4 cups of tea, and it was more than sweet enough. Expertly blended!
My prep was to put the teabag in my 4 cup teapot and pour 2 cups of hot water over top. I steeped for 3 mins, then topped with 2 cups cold water and removed the teabag. I put the whole pot in the fridge, and served over glasses filled with ice!
The ice was definitely needed because the tea was quite concentrated with only 4 cups of water. Turned out perfect though – this is totally tea-bar worthy – I would pay 5 bucks for a cup of this and have it be worth it – because it’s so tasty and unique!
Thanks Frank – you rule school.
ohmahgrerd, this tea is sooo good!
The scent is so strong – buttery rootbeer all the way! And the taste is simply out of this world. The rootbeer element is quite strong, but there is a buttery note (and a super buttery smooth texture). The chicory & licorice root are masterfully blended – they add depth without adding a cloying, throat clogging yuck that many licorice hating people fear! Well fear not!
All this tea does is transport you to Hogsmeade on a wintery day while you chum up with your fellow Slytherins. For me anyways ;)
For the resteep I added some heavy cream – and in the future I will add some butter ripple schnapps, because that’s a key ingredient in my homemade butterbeer recipe. Maybe as well go all out!
And Frank, this new black tea blend is perfection! For reals. So smooth!
Sometimes I wonder if I’d be a Slytherin or a Ravenclaw, because Harry Potter is serious business. This tea sounds amazing, I can’t believe I didn’t get it!
Aww man, now you make me want it! I was worried about the licorice, but I have to try it. Too bad it’s sold out :(
I was placed in Griffindor on Pottermore: http://www.pottermore.com/
Yeah… I’m a nerd.
Rumour has it he’ll be blending more in the coming weeks my friends!
And LiberTEAS – are you totally a Gryffindor! Shout proud! :D
Alphakitty – you could always be sorted on Pottermore – solve the mystery once and for all! ;)
This summer blend is true to its name! Sitting on my couch with of cup of this sweet nectar, watching the morning sun rays radiate a gentle morning summer heat. Hearing the birds (there are gorgeous blue jays around my area! I have never seen one up close until we moved to Halifax). It’s all part of the same experience – it’s all here in my cup!
The first thing I notice with this tea is a caramel note – it’s in the colour, taste and smell. There’s a lightness to this tea – in the texture and way it fills you mouth – not the flavour! The flavour is full and intoxicating. What I love about this tea is how it’s relaxing yet invigorating at the same time. It’s not a kick in the pants – but it drags me awake just the same.
J’adore this blend. The Big Red Robe and Willow Grove puerh add a touch of earthiness that doesn’t overpower at all – it’s running almost as an undercurrent to add movement and depth to the blend, while the touch of aged Silver Needle adds a brightness and a refreshing lightness to the sip that just jives so well with summer.
I haven’t even begun to touch the surface of how delicious this new, summery Imperial Breakfast is. I cannot wait to try it iced!
When I was looking up this tea to write a note, I typed in “Cotton Candy Oolong” haha. I guess my inner oolong lover is a child. Anyways!
This is Mike’s new favourite matcha. What I love about it is that it actually tastes like cotton candy! Hot, pink or blue spun sugar! Or I guess green in this case ;)
This is a really nice blend – I added a bit of sugar but it almost made it too sweet! haha the sweetness of the cotton candy really comes through in the scent, which makes it sweet without any sweetener. Love it.
Michael got this in his summer swap with Missy&Dylan!
Guh, thank you for sharing you guys!!! This stuff is amazesauce! Or… amazetea!
Ginger Peach from RoT was one of my first tea loves – I would drink it every day, but this is a whole other flavour story. Seriously – Mike made some iced to go on our trip to the zoo – the black base is so so smooth and isn’t shy – and I love that the peach flavour takes the forefront with just a hint of ginger for the perfect balance of flavour.
A seriously awesome iced tea – this is Mike’s fave so far you guys! he also loved the Moroccan Mint – we’ll review that later ;)
Okay, the zoo was also awesome! Watching a gibbon tease 2 lemurs and play with it’s teddy bear is seriously calming activity. And there was a baby goat born 4 days ago! So wee!! I really love the ambience of this zoo (mostly farm animals)- the animals seem super well taken care of and happy, it’s clean and calming and there’s so much room to breathe – large habitats and spread out over a large area. I couldn’t have asked for a better Sunday!
Sippin’ on watermelon matcha and life is GOOD!
I chose this flavour because I just knew it would make a totally refreshing iced summer beverage! By george – it is all that and more!
I’m not sure if I’ll be able to stop drinking it tonight – I need to figure out the quickest way to make this into a smooth iced tea that is portable! But maybe matcha is best enjoyed from the comfort of my home in my favourite matcha cup. :3
Iced latte with coffee cream! mm watermelon and cream is totally working – Love it!
I am wanting to try my hand at making some matcha ice cream with this. Perhaps the next time I’m at the store I’ll get the ingredients I need.
Alright, I keep seeing all your flavoured Matcha’s. What does Matcha itself taste like? I’m thinking I may need to try some flavoured matcha
mmm any matcha icecream you attempted would be delicious. this one is seriously awesome with heavy cream so that would hit the spot! Luxury really!
@tattooed – matcha kind of tastes like green tea on an intense scale. It’s a bit grassy and smooth, sometimes astringent or spinachy. Do you have a starbucks around to try a green tea smoothie? Or a DavidsTea to get a tea to go? I think those would be the best ways to get an idea of the taste before committing to buying a lot! :)
@DaisyChubb: what options did you select for this tea? I got the basic matcha with the “distinctive” flavoring, and it turned out perfect for me.
I got the basic flavouring with the basic matcha! I feel it could use a little more flavouring if I order it next time, so I think you may have picked the perfect amount!
