516 Tasting Notes
This was my least favourite of the 4 SBTs I tried, but I think it was because Bubblegum & Cotton Candy were SO flavourful by comparison!
That said, in this one, the black base really shone – just didn’t get enough of that icecreamy goodness that I get from the original honeybush blend. Not bad, just not my favourite! That is all.
OH – and this does end on a happy note – with the return of Earl Grey Cheesecake it gave me a chance to order some more SBTs! So… yeah!
Oh ALSO I got a job! It’s a PR/Customer Service desk at a mall. A mall job which gives me a discount on DavidsTea AND Lush! So for now, I’m a happy retail camper <3
This tisane is delicious and refreshing! Great pineapple and peach flavour – it’s super juicy – I looove bamboo and want more tisanes with it as a base!
Of people mentioning a strange aftertaste – I get it when I ice it, but not when it’s hot. I prefer this tea hot! I also think the aftertaste isn’t from the bamboo (in my opinion) because I drink a lot of Blazing Strawberries and that doesn’t have the same taste – I’m thinking maybe the peach crunchy thingies?
Anyways, I think this blend is hilarious – it’s so pretty and bold that I feel like a kid. huge bright yellow flower buds and deep red petals! Giant chunks of pineapple! feels like I’m playing with megablocks instead of lego.
Anyways, I probably won’t stock up, but this was a nice summery treat and a great choice for tea of the month!
to me it tasted like dying flowers hot. Cold however I found it to be just fine. Quite refreshing and perfect on a hot summer day. It’s different for each person :D
I really, really want to try this! I think I’m going to add some if I break and go for their Perfect Tea Mug promotion… :)
I love bamboo bases too! Blazing strawberries is one of my favourite iced teas, and I just tried bamboozled yesterday and it’s darn tasty too. I love your megablocks comparison – so true! :D
haha glad to see someone gets my crazy comparison :D
This is really really good Michelle, go for it!
Like Jill’s review notes, there is not a heck of a lot of pear flavour in this tea, but it’s a very nice flavoured green none-the-less!
It actually kind of reminds me of 52teas Cherry Cheesecake green tea. Nice and sweet, with a bit of astringency.
Thanks Jillian ! I will definitely try this iced next time!
Thank you for sharing this tea with me Jillian !
This ws very nice and fruity! Reminded me a lot of DTs long Life Oolong actually – the oolong base is quite prominent, with tropical peachy tones. I’m not getting a lot of mango flavour specifically, but it is still a nice refreshing fruity dark oolong.
The blossoms are gorgeous while the tea steeps – very soothing!
Glad I got to try this one :)In anticipation of Butiki Teas one day sale tomorrow, I had a little photoshoot with this GORGEOUS model of a tea. Wow! I couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful tea to be my muse. Seriously.

I am hoarding what little I have left of this tea. Sadly I’m not in a place to order from Butiki tomorrow, so will all of you order for me? I’ll enjoy reading your amazing reviews! I always do :D
P.S. The tea is amazingly delicious. I could hardly stop drinking to write this!
Beautiful pics! I am so excited that this tea is waiting at the PO for me:-)
Also, your new mug is pretty.
I also wish I could rock a bob haircut like you can.
ah that is exciting! You will LOVE it, I can’t wait until you try it! lol
Thank you! The bob is definitely taking some getting used to – but I’m pretty easy going hair wise. It always tends to grow back! :D
Indeed!
Helena, I personally LOVE the Perfect mugs! I would go get 2 more if I wasn’t so broke – I love their size and the strainer inside is the best I’ve ever had (doesn’t let any rooibos fall through, for example).
So if you’re in need of some awesome mugs, I say go for it personally! I have 2 :3
mmm this is the perfect tea to steep and resteep on a rainy day. Also, I had an interview today! Fingers crossed, I don’t care that it’s a retail job, at this point I would rather work retail than a desk job – neither of which are related to my degree!
Ahem. To the tea!
First of all, the leaves are huuuge! The wooden tea scoop I got as a gift from Derek Chew & Peony Tea S. (THANK YOU!) is perfect for getting just the right amount of humongous, twisty, dark leaves. They are gorgeous. When the water was poured over them, the scent filled my kitchen! I steeped as directed on the package, 30 seconds at 185 F.
The first steep surprised me! The leaves had a slight bright green-ness to them, and smelled like sweet minerals. I usually go for green oolongs, but this tea gave me the same great sensation as a spring tieguanyin, surprisingly! Sweet and buttery, but with a darkness and a mineral taste and texture that reminded me that it is definitely a dancong.
Subsequent steeps become less buttery but more sweet and seductive.
Thank you so much to PTS for this tea – it has moved me!
So true Michelle! It’s all about the people – that goes for most jobs I’m sure… I guess it’s why I left my last one haha!
thank you thank you TeaEqualsBliss for sharing this tea with me! Seriously – this tea is AMAZING. There is enough for one cup and MANY resteeps I’m sure! I have never tried a tea like this before – perfect for my indecisiveness tonight.
How to brew… I looked on mandalatea’s website and followed their instructions to start with 1 minute and add 15 seconds for each subsequent brew.
The liquor is very very light. The smell is heady and piney, with an herb-like texture that reminds me of lavender. I’ll admit, the smell kind of turned me off – but when I sipped it – WOW.
The front of the sip is like pine wood but as it reaches the back of my mouth it becomes so SWEET and almost syrupy – I can’t help but take another sip. The taste at the end of the sip is not piney at all, it transforms almost into a marshmallow texture and flavour. Such a unique change in a split second – I am loving this!
I am falling head over heels in love for good pu-erhs – this is such a treat to try!
I’ll update this note as I resteep. :)
Hello, Ms Daisy! I am so glad that you are enjoying these wild arbor buds. In April I was in that area and had the fortune of seeing where these are grown and harvested. This is one of the teas that we sell here at our Mandala Tea shop that pleases almost everybody. And it works very well in tea glass brewing, as well, where the leaf is left submerged in water, the tea is consumed and when the water level gets down to about halfway, more water is added and so on. This is definitely in our top 5 as far as sales right now. Thank you for taking the time to give a review! We are grateful. Many blessings to you!
Thanks for the comment Garret! I DID enjoy this very much, and thank you to TeaEqualsBliss for introducing me to your company! I’m definitely keeping my eye on it – so many delicious looking offerings!
Thank you for your passion! It definitely shows in the quality. :)
Yay! In the next few days, many more new items will be coming up on our site, including my latest ripe tea cake (Mandala Year of the Dragon), a couple of new raw cakes (material bought directly from farmers on my last trip), a whole bunch of new yixing, tea trays, other tea accessories. It just keeps getting more fun, more interesting and more exciting! Thanks so much to TEA=BLISS, too, for her turning you on to some of our schtuff! May the best of health be yours!!
Free 50g in store – gave me a reason to buy another Perfect Mug!
I got this one in green, my favourite green!

Oh Quangzhou Milk Oolong – it’s been too long <3
I really want to get one of those for school next year! I took advantage of the free 50g and ordered their Pu-erh Mini Tuocha, because I’ve never had one of those before (and also it was fairly cheap ~)
…Wow, I didn’t know DT had those either! Pretty cool, I think I will have to try.
I went for the milk oolong as my free one as well. I have yet to try it, so I figured why not.
Today was such a dramatic day I… left my job.
Wow.
I was shaking when I got home – it really didn’t sink in. And now? I’m elated! (Don’t worry folks, I have another temp job lined up)
And I reeeeally needed a calm down tea. But also a super special one! And so, out pops my best friend, Laoshan White. Thanks LW, for seeing me through this crazy time!
Wow! Congrats!
It feels so empowering to take charge of your own life doesn’t it!?
Very glad you had this tea to come home to and also glad you have some work lined up already (gotta be able to buy tea, right!)
Good for you! Sounds like it wasn’t a good environment to work in from what you’ve been writing. It was brave of you to get out before things got worse. Hurrah!
Thank you! My coworker and I honestly feel like we barely dodged a bullet. We got out at the exact right time, by the skin of our teeth! So many analogies – and although the hunt is still on for a permanent job, the temp jobs keep the bills paid and the tea bought b^_^
Amazing! Love your positive attitude! This is the right tea for the occasion! Ain’t nothin gettin you down…!!!!!
Wow! I hope your new job is better than your old one, and I hope you find a permanent one you love! ♥
I’ve done that after being on the (temp) job for only 4 days. Sometimes you just have to stand up for yourself. It’s scary, but totally liberating! Just know that something better will come along, with better pay! :)
Congrats! There are few things worse than having a job you don’t like! So I hope your new one is 1000 times more enjoyable!! :)
Wow! Thank you for your kind words everyone!!!
I encourage you all to take hold of your life and find happiness and liberation! And of course, share on Steepster so we can all celebrate together :D
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – you are the best community evar!
You’ll get a better job and be much happier hopefully it will also have better pay! :D Drink tea and be happy
Yikes! I got the impression that it perhaps wasn’t going wonderfully, but I see that may have been an understatement. I hope things improve with the next one!
Today’s cup of Laoshan is unique! (and delicious as always)
Today I’m getting a slight raisin taste (probably closer to currant) and cinnamon! It’s like a delicious dark custard dessert, perfectly spiced and I can’t stop sipping! Tastes and feels like it is sprinkled with sweet cocoa just a touch of cinnamon. Nothing like too much cinnamon to ruin a dessert (for me anyways!), and this one is juuuust a hint.
I steeped in boiling water for 4 minutes – so if I ever want to recreate this amazing dessert-like experience, I now have it logged for ever
Score for job with discounts!!! Congratulations. :D
Thanks! I figure since it’s kind of a PR job, it can count towards some sort of “You need 3+ years of experience to apply for this job” stuff. Then I can get a legit PR job! Or something. Something good will come of this!
Congrats on the job! Just don’t go spending your paychecks at the mall! J/K – lol!
haha it’ll be hard, but I’ll try! ;)
Congrats! I worked at Lush for two years and will try to get a job at one of the stores here now. It’s always lovely to have a discount there. :)
Yeah! Glad to hear that you got a job and also that there is “benefits” ;)
yay! congrats! now you will always smell like a bath bomb :P
Congrats! Wow, 2 great stores!!
Congrats on the job! ^^
Congratualtions on the job! I’m happy you do get benefits :D
