Thank you greenteafairy for sending me this sample!

This is way too smooth to be an Assam! I did try not to over-leaf it, as I tend to do, especially with black teas. This is really good. I can smell a cherry-like sweetness. Maybe I’m just crazy, as no one else seemed to get that from this. Anyway, this was a very nice tea to have after my cold pizza breakfast. :-)

I’m glad you liked it! I’ve been enjoying this one with breakfast lately. By the way, your wonderful swap package arrived; I’m just waiting until I have time to give these teas proper attention to dig into it!

Just let me know if there’s ever anything else I can send you from my cupboard!

Casey bought me some Mandala Teas for Valentine’s Day, and he let me open them up a day early…Oh, and he’s even letting me listen to Smokey Robinson tonight while we drink it. (He’s almost exclusively into metal.)

This one is wonderful. It ‘s unique among shou puerhs I’ve tried, and I’d say I’ve had a moderate amount of experience. What a treat! It’s somehow reminiscent of a fine caramel-filled chocolate. Yum.

Brought this tea to work today. I knew it would be a difficult day, and I figured an Assam would be a good strong tea to keep me going. This one’s getting a bit older, but it’s still very good. Its astringency is balanced and the aftertaste is very much like honey.

You can see how un-used to the new Steepster I am by looking at the three Teance logos I tried to upload, not realizing that the old ones would be kept. Please may I never accidentally upload a personal photo…

I am trying to sip down some of my teas before ordering new ones, but that hasn’t exactly been working out, as I have definitely not slowed down on ordering in the meantime. I only have enough of this to make another pot or two, but maybe I will just wind up sending it off to someone…

This is probably my favorite Teavana tea ever. It’s malty and chocolatey, earthy and sweet, and quite robust without being astringent, if that makes sense…Also, I did brew this probably too strongly last night, but that was what I was in the mood for!

Your post could be my post! I’m not allowed to buy any tea until my sipdown extravaganza is over (or maybe until I get to 300…still trying to decide). So far I’ve been pretty good, but it’s also been really hard!

Black dragon pearl is also probably my favorite teavana tea ever, although I feel that the current version is paled by their original offering from years ago. Probably my imagination…

Your sipdown extravaganza seems to be going well. I can’t believe you have so many teas! Someday soon I need to count mine and try to update my Steepster cupboard. I’m probably not as far behind you in number as I’d like to think!

I only just discovered Teavana’s Black Dragon Pearls. I don’t know why I never purchased them before this December…

I’ve been looking at your cupboard, & will be sending you some teas that you’re lacking soon, hahaha

That’s sweet of you, but don’t feel like you need to send me anything…!

I wasn’t that impressed with my first 1-minute steep, but the second 2-minute steep of the leaves produced a really nice pot of tea. I’ll have to remember that I like this one brewed for longer.

I pushed the rating on this down a bit. The dry leaf is a little funky. I don’t know how to describe it…I still really enjoy the flavor, and the texture is silky. I’d still be happy to have it again.

Had this tea at lunch time. This is quite good for today because I was in the mood for a straight black, but nothing too strong. This has a nice smoothness and almost a sugary aftertaste and is perfect for an afternoon tea.

This is one of the samples I ordered from Harney & Sons. This tea is similar to what I imagine Kahlua mixed with Franjelico poured over ice that is then allowed to melt might taste like. What I mean is that it’s got a lot going for it, but it’s disappointingly thin and slightly sour. I was hoping this would be more full-bodied. This might be really good with sugar and creamer.

Why did I order a sample of this tea? Why? Why? Ok. I admit it. It was the name. It sounded fun.

Tonight I went online to find steeping instructions. The description worried me. I decided to open up the packet to smell the dry leaf. It brought back a memory of a grape-flavored chewable medicine. Grape-flavored chewable Tylenol. I would have told you I never had it as a child if this tea hadn’t brought back that memory. I have too many good teas to drink, so I’m saving this for later or maybe a swap.

boychik

Thanks, boychik, I will try that.

Bio

Tea means so many things to me, it is so deep and it is revealing new meaning to me all the time.

Tea is a mindfulness practice, and a doorway through which to explore different philosophies, cultures, and historical times. Tea is hospitality and a way of communion. Tea is an art, a ritual, and a tradition. Tea is a complement to the foods I eat (preferably vegan desserts) and is something I enjoy collecting and curating.

I love to swap, or even just send people samples, so if there’s anything in my cupboard you’d like to try, just send me a message!
