Crisp, cool and sweet like powdered sugar, this limited offering spring harvest is full of thick, downy buds . . .
This Bai Mudan is a fresh pre-Qing Ming Spring 2013 harvest from Fuding, the most famous white tea growing region in China. Hand picked and quickly processed to lock in the “fresh from the field” taste that fine white tea preserves, this beautiful tea is one of the most complex and nuanced white teas we have ever tried. Made from a mixture of silver needle white buds and young green leaves, this tea achieves a balance and fully engages the palate in a way that traditional silver needle often struggles to provide.
From the same region as our traditional Bai Mudan, this is a borderline tea that has far more buds than usual, making it texturally closer to a Silver Needle while still maintaining a depth of flavor. In general, the texture is thicker and the taste is more crisp to match the autumn air. While our classic Bai Mu Dan evokes brown sugar and subtle citrus spice, this Bud Set Bai Mu Dan emphasizes cooler elements like stone, powdered sugar and a sweet, subtle hint of vegetal aromatics.
Wang Yanxin helped us acquire enough of this tea for September’s Tea of the Month Club because she has recently fallen in love with Bai Mudan and wanted to share a very different style than what we have been offering. With just six pounds remaining, this limited, one-time offering is only here while supplies last.
ICED: Powdered Sugar, Whipped Cream, Stone and a hint of fresh greens- full and refreshing.
