Coconut Cream

After sticking my nose in many a tea-filled can at the Teaopia shop at my local mall I decided on a cuppa of this one, mainly because it smelled powerfully fresh, green, creamy and surprise, surprise! – like coconut! Prepared according to either Teaopia’s specifications or whatever the woman working there decided to do with it (I confess being too busy talking myself out of buying a nice lidded mug to pay attention). I enjoyed the cup, although I’m not sure if that was mostly because of the flavour or because it was a nice, hot beverage on a distinctly nippy day. Unfortunately despite the tempting smell the taste was decidedly lacking. Sniffing the bewed tea delivered the scent of coconut, and a sort of creamy, maybe slightly sweet note, but my mouth got just a hint of the green tea base and a mild sweetness towards the back of my tongue that faded quickly. There was none bitterness you can get from improperly prepared green tea which was nice but it was pretty bland overall. Definitely more of a temptress to my nose then a lover to my tongue. Alas.

Swapped my housemate to get this in exchange for DAVIDs Fantasy Island (which I really did not enjoy). I find it hard to describe the flavour of this tea. It is a pleasant and light overall blend. Having never tried a “creamy” green before, that is probably what is throwing me off. The coconut and almond flavours are pleasant, and the green is very mild, i’m not crazy about the creamy flavour though. All in all its nice, but not amazing…

I’ve had a sample of this sitting on my shelf for a while, and so I finally decided to steep up a mug. Not bad – not stellar though. I only started to taste the coconut once it had started to go cold. Steep times were pretty finicky with this one too – it got bitter really quickly. Second steepings didn’t work out so well either. It had a decent creaminess when I got the temperature and timing right, but overall I can’t say I’m thrilled.

I liked this tea the first time I tried it, but I did not love it. The tea has a nice taste to it, but it is not something that i would drink often enough to say the 50g I bought was worth it for me. I ended up sharing it at work.

Unfortunately pretty bland on its own. The flavour doesn’t really come through. However, if you want a plain green tea with a SLIGHT creaminess, then this tea will do the trick.

Here’s the shocker, though.
Get this as a latte with half-chocolate syrup. (Half the pumps than a normal latte). I swear…. wtf. As weird as it sounds, it’s heaven in a cup.

As far as Teopia’s green teas go, this is one of my favorites.

The scent is very coconut, with a surprising amount of sweetness to it. I poked around in my little travel tin looking for white chocolate, but to no avail. Could be they’re hiding from me, or they may have crumbled and now are just a sweet coating.

After brewing the scent has dulled some, mellowed. The green tea base is much more prominent with only top notes of coconut remaining. I’m not getting much in the way of almond from it, but that touch of sweetness is still there.

I wouldn’t classify this as a dessert tea so much. While the scent is sweet and there are hints of sweetness to the tea, I don’t feel this would really hit the spot if you were having a sugar craving. I feel this works much better as an afternoon tea, out on a porch in the sunshine. Maybe with a little paper umbrella in your mug.

i love all things coconut & the smell of this tea had me at hello; however, the taste is not that interesting. the label promises all kinds of fine treats: almonds, chocolate, yada yada, but i fear these delectables are in the tea blurber’s head because they certainly don’t show up in the tea. even at a fairly low temp for green tea, this was still quite bitter & needed honey, more than a dollup. this is a blah tea. very disappointing. don’t believe Teapia when they tell you they’ve got a lovely bunch of coconuts, at least not for this tea.

Finally tried this yesterday. I’d give it a lower number, but really, it’s not the tea’s fault. It seems that someone who likes coconut would probably like this tea. I don’t. My least favourite of the three pack, but it’s all because of personal taste. If you like coconut, then certainly don’t listen to the fact I don’t like it.
