768 Tasting Notes
This was another of the 24 Days of Tea from David’s. It certainly looked like a good spicy chai. There were whole cloves in the leaf and some bright read teeny berries. Very pretty. I had no problem with it. I am not going to rate it though, since my flu has completely blocked my nose and I tasted nothing. On the plus side, I did not taste bitterness or sourness. When your throat is this dry and sore from coughing, a nice warm liquid feels good.
Just to be whiney, I am so tired of being sick. In fact, I’m just tired. If I take a slightly deeper than normal breath I cough. My ribs actually ache from it. The doctor told me if I didn’t feel significantly better by Sunday I should call. Dang it. I don’t feel better. But it’s only Friday. maybe tomorrow is the day I turn the corner. Meanwhile, off to sit in my chair and stare blankly at the TV.
I am SOOOO sick. Went to the doctor today and it turns out to be flu. Because of the asthma and diabetes, she said I need to take especially good care of myself. To drink lots of fluids and get lots of rest. Ta Da! Made this tea. I liked it better than I did the last time I had it. Still not a favorite, but certainly drinkable. The doc said herbal teas might be a better choice than black teas or (and she made a face) coffee with milk. I think she may be a tea drinker too!
Upping my rating slightly.
This was the tea for yesterday from David’s the 24 Days of Tea. Strangely, it did nothing for me. I’ve had this one before a couple of years ago and I remember that I really liked it. Did David’s “update” this tea? It wasn’t horrible. But it was oddly flavorless. Of course, I am sick, so maybe that’s why. I still have more leaf in the little jar so I may make it again at the end of December and use more leaf. Honestly, I remember loving this one a couple of years ago!
They changed the gold bits to vegan-friendly a year or two ago. I don’t know if the rest of the recipe was changed as well. I have never really been a great fan of this, but I likely have some of the original recipe here somewhere.
Day Four from David’s 24 Days of Tea 2017.
I am not rating this tea. I do not like green teas, and this one was everything I especially dislike. A slightly bitter edge to a grassy sip. I know many people love green teas, so I don’t want to rate it. I believe I prepared it correctly, that bitter edge may have been due to over steeping. Anyway, this is not one I would ever even try again.
This was Day 3’s tea from David’s 24 Days of Tea.
I remember this one from last year. The hibiscus gave it quite a sour zing. I didn’t mind it quite so much this time. It was more tart than sour. I have a horribly sore throat today, so it actually felt good on my throat. Still not one I would ever buy. But it was okay.
This is one that I’ve found really depends on what lands in your spoon of leaf. It varies from creamy to hibiscus heavy and tart.
Today is December 1st, so I am pretty excited to get started on my 24 Days of Tea from David’s. This is the one for 12/1. It is very pretty in the little jar. It brewed up quite pale. I wasn’t sure if I under leafed it or if this is a normal result for green teas. I rarely drink green teas because I don’t care for them, so I wasnt’ sure. Green teas can taste like lawn clippings to me and that was a concern with this one.
I shouldn’t have worried. I couldn’t taste anything besides the sickening sweetness of the stevia. I forced half a cup down, but that was all I could take. I’m sure there are many tea drinkers who will enjoy this one. I however, will pass.
My Black Friday order from 52Teas arrived yesterday! Boy, am I excited to try all these nummy looking teas. This one was one of the generous free samples that was sent along with the small order. Since i’m always on the look out for a nice dessert non-caffeine tea for evening relaxation, I was glad to see this one.
My sense of smell is almost entirely gone again, but when I first opened the pouch a delicious whiff or orange burst on me. It was like the squirt of orange when you first crack the peel. It is gone again now, but for that split second it was heavenly. I plan to get my kenalog shot next week (which shrinks the polyps in my sinuses enough to allow me to smell for a few months) and I can’t wait to really smell this one. Just from that one whiff I bet it is divine.
I love those chocolate oranges that are so popular around Christmas. The kind that look like a baseball wrapped in foil, and when you smack it, it falls open in chocolate wedges. That is what this tea reminds me of. It brews up a nice dark amber color. I like the flavor best when it is on the edge between hot and warm. Not so hot that you burn your tongue, but not mildly warm. As it cools the rooibos woodiness is more prominent.
I am looking forward to trying this one again in ten days or so when my sense of smell and taste are back. I bet this one is just lovely to smell. Even without a full sense of smell the flavor is smooth and mild. Definitely a hit for me.
Flavors: Chocolate, Orange, Vanilla
Preparation
Ooh, you make me want to skip ahead and try this even though I have so many others in the queue! Was hoping it would be like a Terry’s Chocolate Orange.
I don’t think you’ll be disappointed, fjellrev. I resteeped last night, and the second cup was just as good as the first.
I finished this one off last night. It is sad to see it go, because it was a fave from AQ2T, yet I’m excited about having more room in the tea drawer.
Does anyone else feel like that? A favorite tea is gone and you mourn, but you’re also excited, because now you can order something else?
I had planned to make big orders for Black Friday. But looking at the budget and the amount of tea left to drink, I think I have to be sensible and not do it. That makes me kinda pouty. Adulting is hard.
I am enjoying this one more now than I did before. Not that I ever disliked it.
I’ve had a very busy day. Worked the day job. Then had to run out to the store because I forgot whipping cream last night. I personally can’t stand pumpkin pie, but if I smother it in LOTS of cream I can force it down. Then I completely and thoroughly cleaned the cat box. Whew! That was nasty. Then I had supper before peeling and slicing apples and making pie. Then I cleaned the bathroom, living room and kitchen. Wrote and sent a newsletter. I still need to clean the dining room and wash the good china for tomorrow. But that will have to wait for tomorrow. I’m beat.
Here it is, after 10:30 pm and I’m just now sitting down with a cup of tea. I bet I’m not the only one who is busy. Why I offered to host Thanksgiving I can’t imagine. At least it’s only me, my mom, and two of my brothers. I think I’ll have another cup of this and knit for a half hour before bed.
The tiny red berries are actually tiny little red peppercorns! ^^
I thought they might be!
