768 Tasting Notes
This week has been rough. Next week will be worse. So I decided it was time to splurge on an old favorite tea.
I am looking forward to my Damann Freres advent calendar. I’ve had only a couple of their teas, and one I did’t especially enjoy. But I’ve done the David’s 24 days of tea a couple of years now, and it seems like most of the teas are the same so I thought it was time to try something else. Just a few days to go!
Sorry it’s been a tough week, with only the prospect of tougher ahead. Wishing you some quiet moments and good tea!
Sip Down!
Oh my gosh! I was sorting through my teas to put them in their new drawer home, trying to select the pouches that had one pot’s worth or less in them so I could easily access them and sip them down, when I found THIS ONE! I thought it was completely gone. I mean, gone forever. Oh, smoky spicy tea, how I love you. You were a little weak, since there wasn’t quite enough left of you to make a strong cup, but you were still warming and tasty. You shall be missed.
It’s cold today!! Not record breaking, but it was 13F when I got up and it never got much warmer. In fact, with the wind chill it was -12 in the afternoon. And it snowed and blowed. Just nasty weather all around. I stayed in and made progress on unpacking the sewing room. Now after hours of labor I am relaxing with a cup of tea. This one hits the spot. Mild, smooth, warm and comforting. The perfect before bed cuppa.
At church on Wednesday nights we have various beverages set out. Water, lemonade, coffee and tea. I got the woman in charge of the kitchen hooked on quality loose leaf tea, so now she always makes two pots. This tea was one of the offerings last wednesday.
I forgot how much I enjoy this. I miss Tippy’s Tea! Did they close up shop? As I recall I super enjoyed their Minted Monkey.
This is the sample I got with my latest 52Teas order. Boy, am I glad they sent this one along! It is rich, malty, chocolatey goodness, just like a chocolate malt from the old fashioned diner. I’m allergic to milk products, so I usually skip ice cream goodies but i’ve had malts and this is a malt! But even better in some ways, since I won’t get hives or itch for hours after having it ;)
Flavors: Chocolate, Creamy
Preparation
My 52Teas order came! And it came fast!
I ordered four teas and I had a hard time deciding which one to try tonight. I settled on this one because it sounded yummy and it was caffeine free. AAAND..!!! I have a teeny bit of my sense of smell back so I could smell it! I can’t tell you how amazing it is to smell my tea. Why they can’t find a cure for AERD I don’t know. At least the steroid shot helps for a few week a year.
Anyway. The tea. Yes. When I opened the pouch the strawberry scent was prominent, with a creaminess very like ice cream (oh! That’s something else I need to taste soon!) It brewed up not quite so dark as some honeybush teas. The brewed scent was fainter, but still present. The tea was creamy and sweet, with a teeny bit of tang from the strawberry. I am obviously not an expert on taste, but I thought the taste here was delightfully like ice cream and strawberries.
Preparation
Did you know that the Christmas Advent Calendar season is only around 5 weeks away????
I’ve gotten a David’s 24 Days of Tea a couple of years now, but I think I’d like to try something else this year. Any suggestions?
That was all brought about because I made this tea in the late morning and of course it reminded me of Christmas. I had my kenalog shot on October 8 and it is finally kicking in enough so I can smell. And this tea, even though it is getting ooold, still smells great. And the flavor is till good too. I am going to be opening and inhaling lots of teas this week. Silly, I guess, but it makes me happy to smell my tea :D
Girl, I’m doing two of my tea advent calendars in November. Five is too many to do all at once! Yes, I’m aware I have a problem… ;)
There’s a thread on tea advent calendars on the discussion boards with a pretty extensive list. ❤
Thank you, thank you! I’ve always wanted to try the dammann freres advent calendar. Even with international shipping it was within my price range. So I ordered squee For some reason I’ve never been able to reply to any post in the forums. Don’t know why. But I saw your post and clicked. Now I’m broke. But happy!!! ahem and two is a very reasonable compromise, I think.
I had a difficult day. Nothing major. Just at work we were hit by a surprise audit. WEll, they are all surprise audits, but this one gave us only 72 hours to scramble to get all the info together. And we are 4 people short due to surgery, maternity leave, 6 week long vacation… So we’re on overtime through November 2. The money will be nice but I am too stressed to appreciate that right now.
So I decided to break out the tin of this tea. It is aging, but still yummy. When I drink it I remember friends I was with when I first tried tis tea. Tea often does that for me: brings happy memories of friends and places to mind.
