I got a tin of of this bagged for Christmas. My brother knows I like tea, and enjoy spicy teas especially. So he got me this and one called Cinnamon & Cardamom. So far, only made this one.

I see it has rather low ratings here. I thought it was good. Unremarkable, but good. I used about 9 ounces of water instead of the recommended six. I am a weirdo who prefers weaker tea. I let it steep about 4 minutes. I can’t really tell what it tastes like. but the spice was faint. That might be just because of my stupid sinuses, although I see a couple of other reviewers had a similar experience. The end of the sip had a slightly bitter edge. Just a hint. I don’t take milk in my tea, but a bit of milk or sugar might have evened that out. My brother said his cup was “okay” which I interpret as he did’t care for it much. :)

I think this tea will be a pleasant cup from time to time.

Dammann Freres Advent Tea Calendar
I think this one was Day 22. Maybe. Anyway, I quite enjoyed it. It was mild and nutty and sweetish without being cloying or sickeningly sweet. Possibly my favorite from the tea calendar thus far.

Dammann Freres Advent Calendar

I don’t remember which day this was. My days have all smeared together and I can’t keep track.

I had this one and my brother had Dune d’Epices since he likes green tea. He found that one very refreshing. He said he would have been happy to have a tin of it.

My cup was quite pleasant. I liked the sweetish tang of citrus and didn’t detect any of the earthy grassy flavor that often accompanies oolong teas. There was another flavor that I didn’t care for as well, but I didn’t recognize it. After reading the description I think it must have been the buckwheat. That didn’t set as well with me., But overall, a pleasant cup.

Day 19 of the Dammann Freres Advent Calendar

This one was pretty good. The woody flavor of the rooibos was there, but not prominent. I got a bit of the citrus, a bit more of the cherry, and some of the spices. I often get an odd dry feeling on my tongue from cinnamon, but I got only a little of that with this one. For me the cherry was a little out of place. I liked the spicy/citrus just fine without it.

Day 18 of the Dammann Freres Advent Calendar

this one was okay. I was hoping for more ginger and spices, but I got a big shot of floral perfume. For someone who enjoys rose tea I think this tea would have been a good choice. It is not at all astringent or bitter. The rose flavor really comes out as the cup cools. So, not may favorite. But this is another tea that I would never have =tried on my own, so it was a great chance to stretch my tea horizons.

Day 16 Dammann Freres Tea Advent Calendar

This one was a ok. A black tea, a teensy bit astringent, sort of apple-y, a little bit cinnamon-y. Not a bad tea, but not one I’ve ever order.

Days 14 & 15 were Carcadet Pomme d/Amour, which was a gorgeous reddish purple in the cup and horribly, horribly sour, and a Christmas Herbal Tea which I did not enjoy either. We’ll see what I get to enjoy tonight.

Day 13 of the Dammann Freres Advent Calendar

Ah, at last a tea I thoroughly enjoyed. No bitterness or astringency. No bergamot or green tea or hibiscus. The cherry flavor is a teeny bit reminiscent of kids cough syrup. The almond must have been too subtle for me to pick up. The tea base was smooth. I liked it quite a bit. If I do place an order (which I had planned to do in late January, but the offerings so far has caused me to re-think that plan) then this will be one of the teas I get.

You should get Noel a Prague, it also has none of those things you don’t like and it’s very unique.

I bet it’s coming up. Still 11 more teas to try!
Even though I haven’t absolutely adored any of the teas yet, it has been a good experience for me to try ones I normally wouldn’t ever buy.

Oh I hope the Prague pops up for you to try it! But I know they have many ‘Noel’ blends.

Day 12 of the Dammann Freres Advent Calendar

Another type of tea I’ve never had. A white tea this time. It brews up a slightly darker color than other white teas I’ve had. White teas tend to be hit or miss for me. Sometimes they are nearly as grassy as green teas. This one had a very faint grassy note at the end of the sip as it cooled. Also a bit of astringency. But I rather like this one. It is just a little sweet on its own, with a refreshing, clear flavor. The berry flavor comes across pretty well. It adds a little tang to the sip. Not sour, just refreshing. I think this one might be very good iced on a hot day.

Day 10 of the Dammann Freres Advent Calendar 2018

This was green tea. Very green. Very grassy. A hint of citrus. I didn’t taste any cinnamon. I’m sorry I didn’t like it. I drank about a quarter of the cup and then poured it down the sink. I hate doing that. But I just couldnt’ make myself drink it. But hey, at least I’m keeping my promise to myself to try every tea in the advent calendar!

Day 11 of the Dammann Freres Tea Advent Calendar

Dang it, more green tea and bergamot.

Oh well. I don’t hate it. I finished the cup. The little packet said black tea, not black and jasmine green tea, so I brewed this with boiling water. I thought it was fine that way. I do get a bit of something fruity. Maybe citrus. Hard to know with my stupid nose (I’m feeling a bit grumpy about not being able to smell. I shouldn’t. It’s nothing new. But for some reason I am crabby about it) As the tea cooled I got a little something at the end of the sip that might have been pineapple.

So I wouldn’t order this one but I liked it enough to drink the whole cup.

I love cats. I love alone time. I love sitting indoors on a cold winter night with a book or my knitting while drinking tea. I don’t have a sense of smell, so many of the more subtle flavors of tea escape me. Two of the things I CAN taste are bitter and sour, so any tea that has even a slightly bitter taste is nasty for me. And what others might perceive as pleasant tartness may be horribly sour for me.

I’m also a writer. I love writing, and a mug of hot tea helps me get through the hours sitting in front of the computer. Although I’m a comparatively new tea drinker, I’m jumping in feet first. Feel free to recommend any teas you think I might enjoy.

100-91 – Wowza! I want to keep this tea in the cupboard all the time.
75-90 – Very nice. It would be good to have this tea on hand from time to time.
60-74 – OK. Wouldn’t keep it in the cupboard, but I would drink it again.
45-59 – If a friend served this I would drink it to be polite, but it’s not really my cuppa.
Lower than 45 – Blech. It was too sour or bitter for my taste. Would not drink it again.
