Hey all!
So I know that there’s a lot of people on Steepster, and many of them are battling with things in life, and many of them are bound to run into some crappy moments. It happens. We’re human.
I also know that a lot of people on Steepster read a lot, are into art, or just randomly stumble across little bits of inspiration.
I’d like to dedicate this thread to people on here that aren’t having the most fantastic time right now (and in the future).
I ask anyone and everyone that has anything inspirational to share to do it here.
Quotes, links to inspirational videos, books people should read, etc. If you can share something that will make someone feel better, share it here.
Ready? GO!
I’ll start it off :-)

Can I post cute bear pictures? Cause they always put me in a better mood.

I have a few but I’d need to scan them. So from online here’s a genetic oddity from the population I worked with.

I love that kind of sound bears make to their young. The closest I can get to it is to snap my lips together.
It was amazingly interesting, they are fascinating animals! We had to be a bit of everything there as well, zoologist, botanist, geographer, road engineer etc. My boss had interesting stories as he also was in charge of surveying the Polar Bear population in James Bay. We handled bears, and tracked them. It was a population fecundity/survivorship study.
I’m. So. Jealous. That sounds like an incredible experience. Did you see Disney’s Bear documentary that came out on Earth Day? I don’t usually watch documentaries, especially in theaters, but I went opening weekend, and the whole time all I could think about was how much I would love to have been on the film team.
I didn’t but I did see a documentary on a Pennsylvania black bear study, where loads of people had bears denning under there porches and didn’t know until the biologist knocked on their door for permission to do den work.
Bears are so cool though. Did you know that when bears conceive the fetus is held in a four cell zygote stage until they den? At that point something in the bears physiology decides whether they have enough body fat to survive the winter and rear young. If they do the fetus continues developing if not it is reabsorbed. I did see the commercials for the Disney documentary. I rarely go to movies anymore. I stopped frequenting them when the volume increased to the point it causes me pain. Sometimes, even with ear plugs.
Do you remember the name of the documentary? I would love to watch it!
I didn’t know that! And yes, they are quite loud. I worked as a theater a few years back, and it always blew my mind when people would complain about the volume being too low. I don’t have very good hearing, and even I think they’re loud.

For inspiration, I like to listen to Buddhist talks. I don’t know if posting a link is appropriate? I’m not Buddhist but, some really great perspective.
Also, love Joseph Campbell. The Bill Moyers interviews are amazing! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5OD6vd6lvlc
I’m not Buddhist either (Agnostic, here) but I love the Dalai Lama! Read several of his books and went to hear him give a talk once. Good times for sure :)
You always beat me to the Joseph Campbell, Stacy. My favorite inspiration from him is simply: Follow Your Bliss.
It’s perfect.
Sarsonator-So glad I have another Joseph Campbell fan buddy on here. Love ‘follow your bliss’.
Marzipan-Bwhahahaaha. Oh man.
I laughed way too much at the mango video…snorts. ;-)
And yes…not a buddhist either, but could be. So much respect.
Holy Moly!!!! I completely missed the mango the first time around. I think I saw Joseph Campbell and I got all happy about that and completely missed the mango.
The mango is hands down, one of the greatest videos I’ve ever seen. I am crying because I’m laughing so hard.
And now there is an hour-long version? Mango pirate booty!!!!!
This thread already makes me feel better…

Where there’s tea there’s hope. — Arthur Wing Pinero
“When nothing seems to help, I go look at a stonecutter hammering away at his rock perhaps a hundred times without as much as a crack showing in it. Yet at the hundred and first blow it will split in two, and I know it was not that blow that did it, but all that had gone before.” – Jacob Riis
Kind of my life’s philosophy
Murphy’s Laws
18. Anything good in life is either illegal, immoral or fattening.
What about teawear? When I see pics of teapots and gaiwans, and cups, they make me feel…totally immoral
When I was India the most common saying I heard was “This is India, anything is possible”. The saying taught me a little bit about unconditional hope and positivity. It must work as well because the people I met there were way happier than anyone I knew back home. When I find myself drifting into periods of deep negativity and sarcasm that my particular cohort is prone to I try to revisit this mantra and apply it to my life, it often helps me refocus.
